so this morning i was taking some friends to the airport and something very weird happened:

i only made it maybe 100 yards before it seemed my clutch went out, but normally you know when you feel your clutch starting to give,
i was slowing down for a red light and it turned green, pushed the clutch in shifted to second lifted my foot and gave it some gas and it like my clutch wouldnt engauge.. wtf shifted to third and the samething fourth, fifth, six nothing, wtf...

any ideas.. is it that f****** cold....

if you can still take off from first and give the engine load without the rpm's spiking and your speed going no where...then it's not your clutch but something to do with the trans

Clutch may not be engaging all the way, stuck arm, broken spring, etc.

Sorry to hear that Gabe! I know you spent a lot of time working on that project. If you need to find a tranny let me know, I might be able to help.

OT, we do need a tranny and engine hall of shame thread of everyone who has blown something up! I know I will be on both of them.

Let engine run for a while. Should warm things up.

Might consider flushing the fluid out in case it has picked up some water over time. Not sure if you can use dot 5 on these cars but that would help.

the title is because i have never ending tranny issues, i cant take off at all greenspeed,

the only way i can explain it:

its like when i blew my second gear in the 5 speed, but with every gear, its like none of the gears are there, none even reverse.

could it be:

frozen clutch components?

center diff problems?

shift fork issue?

i cant hear any grinding cluncking whining........

OK, so when I thought I blew my tranny..... Took off and lost all gears but 3rd, limped it home. I could not get it to engage into any gear at home. Put NEW tranny in..... Still had same problem.... Said shifter popped out of linkage and went threw the boot and dangling under the car. That's all I have to say.

My buddies had an issue like this with a dsm over the summer. However I'm not sure what was done to fix it.

We've had a lot of diffenent trans issues and solved them all, but trying to figure this out in person is so much easier Lol

I was just sharing my experience. If someone would have told me to look there, it would have saved me $1500 and a new tranny that already has problems with the syncros.

I feel your pain. Blew 4 up in the Honda this year alone.

I have seen more than one shift linkage let go before, lock washers and lockwire are your friend here. Its a breath of relief when you see how easy (and free) the fix is.

well it is really cold today. I'd say something might be frozen. Get the car into a warm place and let it unthaw for a bit. see what happens then.

Default update:

well, i got to my car last night and started it and let it warm for about ten mins. pushed the clutch pedal, felt fine, put it in first, slowly let clutch out, and the car moved... wtf.. drove it in the neighborhood i pulled over in yesterday morning, up the street and back to the main road, i pulled out on the main road got in third and gave it some power and slip...... had to pull over in the gas station and get towed by my friend who was following me, what do you think??..

New clutch???
any suggestions on what kind?

i had an exedy stage 1 organic with havy duty pressure plate 320 lbs. torque rated, i maybe want something alittle stronger.

i guess since you have a sti 6mt you might get away with a stage 2 but don't go to a full puck...

Did you replace the clutch when you did the tranny a few months back?

I went with a ACT clutch and Street Light Flywheel. I like the set-up, easy to drive with and it has held up well through drag racing this past summer.
