Question Why are Vancouver lower mainland gas price still ridiculously high?

I was driving down across the boarder last night and gas is $1.89 per gallon which works out to be approx $0.60CAD/liters. and we are paying like $0.92/litersCAD that's $0.32 more.
For my ride that's like $20.00 savings a full tank.

Price of crude when $140/barrel we are paying $1.50
with that relation, price of crude is $40/barrel, we should only be paying approx $0.40 add tax and stuff max $0.70. "apparantly eastern canada is only approx $0.80/L

It's still hurting our wallet.
WTF??????

cost of me driving down there is like $8.00 perhaps it's worth while to cross the boarder with a cherry can.......

I find it odd that you are complaining about sub 1.00 /litre prices.

We are WAY cheaper than every where else in the world (excluding only a few oil producing countries). The only reason the US is cheaper is because they have bigger guns and are bigger dicks when it comes to foreign policy. After travelling I find gas prices quite reasonable here. If you really have an isue with it get a car that doesn't use as much fuel, take the bus, car pool, ride a bike etc etc.

I think the gas price is reasonable here (compared to other places such as Aisa, Euro...and even Dubai...)... It would be nice to get a cheaper gas...

But again, back to the basic which is "you pay to play"... and I wouldn't have bought my STi if I used it as daily commute simply I couldn't afford the gas...(I skytrain to work)

IBIL...

Don't forget about translink. Their stupid taxes add about 15-25 cents per liter

the reasons according to the fuel companies is a regional supply issue, that has been ongoing for many months.

we're getting fleeced.

there is nothing we can do about it.

We are getting screwed on gas prices. My guesstimate is a 70 cent a litre gas price including our Lower Mainland specific taxes. The gas companies are gouging us huge. They are making record profits when most businesses are struggling. Our government does nothing to protect us from the price gouging. I would love to see a class action lawsuit. I would be all over that.

This chart shows the last 6 years. Red is the crude oil price. Blue the pump price average for Vancouver

This one is the last 6 months. Note where the lines cross and how the distance between the two has decreased. That is the 'gouge'.

www.vancouvergasprices.com is where I got this info from.

Well said.

To add to what's been said, this is what others in the world are paying for a gallon of gas (usd).

http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lis...bal_gasprices/

Some notables include Venezuela at $0.12/gallon, and Saudi Arabia at $0.91/gallon.
For reference, we pay the equivalent of $4.15/gallon, based on .91c/L and a 20% us exchange rate.

Check the list and you'll see that it puts us smack dab in the middle. For the amount of oil we produce, I feel it's odd that we pay so much, and at the very least we should be able to bitch about it. There's nothing else we can do while our wallets are being gouged with premium at close to $1.10/L.

that too. but the reason bc is 5-10 cents more than the rest of the country from what they fleecers are telling us, is a regional supply problem. i don't know what that means. i've never heard any elaboration on it, or if it will ever end.

while it's true gas is very expensive in europe, look at the average commute to work in Europe and compare that to here. Compare the public transit system in europe. The fact is owning a car in europe is a luxury 95% of the time. Owning a car in Canada or the USA is a necessity 95% of the time. So yeah that argument is kind of BS.

If you want to compare to another country it only makes sense to compare to a country with similar infrastructure and way of life (IE the USA). I remember buying 100 Octane in Oklahoma at normal gas stations for 2.00$ a gallon....lol

but thats just part of being canadian....you wont hear me complain about gas prices....but i will ****ing complain about beer prices....what's the deal with the price of beer? It's outrageous....I could buy beer BREWED IN CANADA in Arkansas for less than half the price i pay for it here.....This is the problem, who cares about gas prices

I USED to believe the oil companies' excuses when they said high prices were about refineries...and exchange rates....and transportation logistics...blah blah on-and-on. Obviously it's just the free-market democracy we're living in so it's no use complaining. But it's kinda cruel oil companies are profitting so much when so many people are hurtin'.

By the way, does anyone know where all of the benefits of OUR oilsands are going? Sure doesn't seem to be helping our own oil prices...or is it? (not an economist here)
