No problem, good luck
![]() Go to the very first post in this thread. Looks like your vin is from a sedan built in 07/08, based on the table there.

Hello,
So who is the highest mileage survivor here? I don't want to jinx myself, but I hit 46k today and was going to get the SPT cat back installed as i am sick of the mousefart exhaust note ![]() Is there any possibility that some of these in the dangerzone are safe or is this 100% the motor is going to die. |

I believe the consensus is 100% failure.
I think somebodies recently failed in the high 40K's. mine has over 33K on original motor. Also talked with the dealer that would be doing the work and they told me my cat-back wouldn't bother them if the bearing the failed. |

subaru botched the pistons, not enough room for rings to expand, also problematic rod bearings. Stock/modified, doesnt matter, run to lean, motor go boom, most stock maps are the culprit as well. |

With that response, I'm assuming you don't know what this thread is about...

I apologize but I simply do not have the attention span to re-read this whole 35 page thread.
Was there a defined end point that anyone knows of? Even though I believe that my vin is out of the danger zone (506236 as mentioned before) i'm still waiting for it to go bang. |

I don't believe we have an end point nailed down, but yours is a good 1000+ (VIN) beyond the highest seen in this thread. I wouldn't expect it to fail for the reason discussed in this thread.

2009 Impreza WRX 265 sedan (Canadian)
39,xxxKM's on original motor, completely stock. 08/08 build date Don't have VIN at the moment. car went in today, they don't have a journeyman to look at it for another 3 days but I was promised it would be covered under warranty and that I would be updated after the Journeyman looked at it and decided what exactly needed to be ordered in... New motor and turbo I would hope... Anywho, thank god it happened now and not in 7 months when the warranty is up. |

09 SEDAN 08/08 32,000 VIN 50247 Bit the dust! I'am the first wave of fighting with Subaru. This was a flashed tune and I was up front about it and the dealer is backing me but SOA is aware. I have been at at stage two for three weeks with normaly driving conditions and it happend. I thought I was in the clear but this is turly a motor issue with Subaru. So How much have people spent if they have to dish it out on there own for a new motor. I need a plan B if Subaru does not replace.********D

Subaru covered mine when it blew at 48K last August. (See my posts earlier in this thread) But in reference to your question, I asked them what it would have cost if it WASN’T covered and they said it would be in the 7,000 to 7,500 range. ![]() |

Does this issue apply to 09 forester xt's. Seriously I'm about to get one tomorrow. But just curious if it applies.

Hello all,
I am new to Subaru's and just picked up my first WRX on 8/3/2012. So far it has been a great car and other than the usual aesthetic issues that come with purchasing a used car, I have no complaints. This morning on the way to work, I noticed that at highway speeds ~55-70 mph, I could hear a slight rattle that sounded like something was loose in the engine compartment. The noise dissipates at lower speeds and becomes inaudible. The car JUST went through a Subaru 25 point inspection at a local dealership and passed with flying colors, but I doubt they would be tell if there were any potential issues with the motor based on a simple inspection. After seeing this thread, I am slightly worried and was hoping for some helpful insight from the community. the car details are as follows: 2009 WRX Sedan ~60,0xx miles VIN Production Number: 511851 Right now, ,the car is bone stock mechanically and has a 2 year 24,000 mile extended warranty on it from the dealer I bought it from. It seems that my production number is a little later than those that are posted in the beginning of this thread, but I don't know around what production number the issues were resolved. So does NASIOC think - am I being paranoid? Or is this something I should be legitimately concerned about? |

). About a mile later I was accelerating to get on the freeway and the rattle got louder, could only be heard when the revs were around 2.5k. After a few more miles it was knocking like crazy. |

You may or may not have a motor issue.
However, it is extremely unlikely that it is the specific issue discussed in this thread. |

This problems only occurs with 08/08 build date? I own a WRX 2009 265hp with 17k miles on it and im a bit afraid of this problem ocurring to my car. I thought this problem would only happen with the 08 230hp version ones
My WRX was delivered on Jun/2010, but it was built on 2008. Not sure what month though. Does somebody has a glue whether i'm safe or not Last 6 digits: 054336 Last edited by Muh; 09-10-2012 at 02:59 PM. |

I think you typo'd or read your VIN wrong, the first digit of the last six digits should be a 5 or an 8.

Hey Guys,
Sorry to necro the thread but, I am still alive and well at 54k (08/08 build) only "mod" is an SPT cat-back. I don't track or anything ,just a few lively on-ramp runs no clicks yet. I can only hope this wave is behind us. |

49K miles 08/08 build here. I don't think it's behind us in the slightest, I'm just hoping it happens before the warranty is out and that Subaru won't give me a bunch of grief being that I do all the maintenance. |
