I am completely new to pistols (I bought a shotgun a couple years back for home defense), and I heard there are places where you can rent several guns at a time to get a good feel for them?

I am in Seattle/Montlake UW area- and suggestions? (I know of two places in Bellevue one near 140th and 8th and one over by the 405 I90 interchange.)

The renting will lead to me buying a gun, ammo, and a couple clips.

I'm sorry if I am using incorrect terms...

Thanks in advance!

Most gun stores with a firing range will let you "rent" the guns to shoot at their range. The Marksman in Tacoma/Puyallup charges $10 iirc and then you can try any of their test guns, you just need to buy or supply your own ammo for each.

Bullseye in Tacoma. Avoid the store. Their "gunsmith" wrecked two of my pistols in the same day and the owner told me tough ****. The range and store are two different companies. The range folks are good people.

love that upper. Is that standard AR 15 fitment? I'd like to get my hands on one. Are they priced well and readily available?

one more question;
When are you going to shoot it? I'm looking for good barrels and they're hard to find. There are a ton of cheap AR barrels on the market, but I'd like something more accurate than average.

I highly recommend The Marksman at Canyon and 512 down in Puyallup. HUGE selection of rentals. Bullseye has very little to choose from. I was just there yesterday and they got a large shipment of Springfields (especially a lot of XDs) and they now have an XDs (slim .45 ACP) on the rental shelf.

They have about a dozen pistol choices in each 45ACP, .40, and 9mm to choose from. A few revolvers (including a Chiappa Rhino I believe!). They also have a good selection of .22 for plinking.

They have a mandatory range safety for ALL new people, regardless of experience.

Range fees are:
$10 - Range Safety
$12 - Range fee
$13 - Rental fee

Then add on the price of ammo and targets and you're set.

If you are new to pistols and want to get your hands on a large variety, I would dedicate a day/afternoon to drive down there and spend a lot of time on the range. Try the different calibers and build. This is what I did to make my first pistol purchase (.40 XDm) from The Marksman.

Be warned, they might not be the best in the "friendliness" department and may seem like they are in a bad mood, but that's just the way they are. They are very blunt and straightforward when you talk to them usually, "get to the point" type reactions, but if you have a little patience with them, they are really good people and have a lot of experience with firearms AND fitting you with a pistol that is right for you.

I'd be willing to meet with you there sometime for a day of shooting. I can bring in a 9mm SIG 239 and my previously mentioned .40 XDm that you can try along with the rentals they have to offer (A LOT). You can shoot until your hand goes numb.

It"s even better with a 20 round drum and not a 12.

The upper is a custom job done by my local gun shop, curts discount shooters supply. They are awesome. Kinda a mix of the seekins and Vltor mur. They are 200 or 180 I can't remember.

The barrel is a black hole, I have a few others. They shoot very very well. I have shot 5 shot dimes at 100 yards. And my 10.5 barrel will do 1/2 Inch groups as well. My brother also has one on his ar10 and loves it. I think they are the best value vs results. If money was no object I'd have all noveske barrels. But at 500 base price it's a hard purchase for a non competition setup for me.

I need to get off my ass and start another build now that supply is finally picking up.

I have 10.5" upper finally coming to finish off a pistol, but I really need to pick up a billet lower and maybe do a SBR or a 300 BLK.

Any one else rocking a 300? Where you get your ammo from?
