Naw it was really easy once I had the proper automotive retaining ring pliers. I just work so much this time of year I can hardly get into the garage at all.

Alright. Short answer: they're pretty good trucks, albeit quirky.

What kind of wheeling do you plan on doing, and how much do you plan on modifying the truck?

Mechanically they're actually pretty solid. The motor is a Buick variant which doesn't make much power, but will take a lot of abuse and mostly just leak oil in return. You'll see a lot that have blown headgaskets, but from what I've seen they are mostly a result of cooling systems that aren't maintained.

Electrically they have a lot of weird issues; intermittent windows, dash lights etc, but for a weekend beater I wouldn't sweat it.

Find one that appears to have been pretty well-maintained and you'll be alright. Lift it and put it on 33's and you'll have a truck that will surprise you.

I just got this. Previous owners took really good care of it and as far as I can tell at this point it just needs brake fluid flush and maybe pads.

drive it. pray it doesnt self destruct.

I'm also waiting for a nice e46 m3 to come around. And I have a project 68 camaro in the garage, so no real plans for the truck other than extra car, parts getter and occasional tow vehicle.

Carmax has a khaki hardtop LJ with 42k miles in Rubicon trim. Want so bad, but they're priced $2500 over Edmunds.com retail. Hmmmph.

yes, but that's $2500 OVER Edmunds' retail value. It's exactly what I want though...save maybe a manual transmission.

They have quite the following in the FJ community. Sound like a reputable company too. Good luck.

What got me was the tinted windshield. Who does that? Badging it as a "300GD" is cute, though.

Oh, and in response to another post above: no mention of lockers in that particular eBay ad..l

This year's fishing I was driving down some roads onto some gravel bars. It needs just a bit more ground clearance. There were some really nice SUV's that were capable of driving down there but all were parked on the paved road. The only thing on this road/gravel bar was work trucks and my Outback. It's not for serious off roading but it gets me down some roads to some fishing holes and onto some gravel bars.

I added this to the rear this weekend. I'll get to the front next weekend.
