Three Pulley set and belt sizes

The three pulley set that various vendors sell is supposed to be the same size as stock - and come with Gates belts (K040355 and K050345). Since the belts are all supposedly the same size as stock I told the people that installed my three pulley set that they could maybe use my current stock (Subaru) belts. But they said that they had to use the Gates belts because the belts weren't actually the same size, or something?? Does anyone know anything about this? thank you.

what pulley set is it? if it is an underdrive set, then obviously u need smaller belts. but if it is the N1 set, then they are the same size. but what does it matter, it´s a belt.

It's not an underdrive set - it's supposedly a Subysports regular (lighter) three pulley set.

I have the subysports lightweight pulley set... I stuck the stock belts back on. I figure when the time comes to change them, I already have a set. Your friends are probably talking about underdrive pullies.

Well, it's not really my friends exactly - it's the "Subaru's Only" shop in Lake Forest Park. But I figured that they probably had it wrong, somehow.
