Default Unimpressed with local Subaru dealers...*Rant*

Hey everyone,

Well as I continue my efforts on selling my Tacoma, I keep constant lookout for local WRX's (02-05) to test drive, and guage pricing on.

In the past I have test driven

2 RSX-S's (Both with no "dealer" accompanyment)
1 2006 Civic Si (Dealer came with)
1 2002 Celica GTS (dealer came with)
and one 2008 Civic Si 4 door (Told Honda up front I could not afford it, but I wanted to test it anyways, they were happy to oblige)

So with all of these down I wanted to test a WRX, as this is my prefered next car.

So, last weekend I decided I would trek out from Abbotsford (to richmond automall to test more cars).

Test drove a MAzda3, 6, and a 4cyl accord.

But I really wanted to test out one of the 2 WRX's that were at Richmond Subaru (an 02 and an 06). They were listed on their webpage, so I thought I would stop in and take a spin.

So after a 1.5 hour drive out to richmond, a few test drives and lunch i am FINALLY at the main point of my journey, to test a WRX.

I stand around outside poking around for 15-20 mins, with no salesperson offering to help. As i walk around the lot I notice neither WRX is present.

I walk inside a little annoyed to ask "where I can find these cars, and would like to test drive one if not both".

The floor manager replies, " There is a local WRX meet today, and two of our salespeople have taken these cars to the meet."

Annoyed I reply, "well is there any other WRX outside I can take for a test drive? Possibly a 2008 or 2009, I came out here from Abbotsford to test a WRX and I would like to test one".

"Would you be able to purachase one of our newer models?" he questions

"No, my price range is around $20,000." I tell him,

"Sorry, I cannot let you take a new WRX for a test drive unless you are looking to buy."

Pissed off, I immediatly walk out of the showroom and start my long journey home.

Which takes me to today (a week after), my buddy is going to look at new Lancers and 2.5i's for sale in Langley for his girlfriend. He lives about 10 minutes away from the Langley Automile, so thats where we went.
After arriving we are greated by an overhyper young female sales lady.

My buddy explains that he is shopping for his GF, and would like to test a new 2.5i. She happily grabs the plates and lets us go alone on our test drive.

Upon our return she does the usual sales pitch, and he reminds her this car is for his gf, and she just wanted his opinion on which car to buy.

We walk around for a while, and I spot a 2004 92-X in the back for sale.

I ask her if I can, "Take a look at it"

She says, " you can look, but no test pilots"

Puzzled I ask why.

She asks me " Are you looking to buy it?"

I tell her "Yes, I have been looking at 03-06 WRX's"

Figuring I would get good treatment as I am actually looking to buy a car (unlike my buddy), I am suprised when she goes back to my buddy and asks him if he would like a package on the new 2.5i.

What the ****? Both cars were similar in price $23,000, yet she figured I was just a test pilot and ignored me.

Luckily my buddy, picking up on her complete disregard of my test drive request, replies, " Sorry I think I will keep looking" and walks away.

What is it with Local subaru dealers being dinks? I am a young kid, 23, (great for them, possible lifetime owner) with money ready to spend, yet I cannot for the life of me test drive a WRX. I have read the "best local dealer thread on here" and I hope to have more luck when I go next sunday to Don Docksteader Subaru (02/05 WRX onsite), but I have already passed judgement that Richmond/Langley Subaru dealers aren't interested in making sales.

If Don Docksteader blows me off like this I guess ill just buy a Kia .

*RANT*

PS. The 2.4L Lancer GTS feels a ton better than the 2.5i impreza. And the salesman at Wolfe Mitsu was a great guy, very helpful and sold my friends GF on her new car.

I haven't had any trouble test driving cars from dealership to dealership, and I look like I shouldn't have my license.

You don't just walk up to a sales guy and straight up ask for a test drive... They get people looking for joy rides all day long- I'm not at all surprised you got rejected. Unless you see that they have a demo car on the lot, then just ask.

Also, if you were going to make a 1.5hr trek for it, why didn't you call in advance? This also demonstrates that you're actually interested in that particular car and not just wandering around looking to rip around in random cars...

Wow !! I can't believe how unreasonable these car salesmen are!!

Dude, it's like they don't even want your business !!

It's just so rude of him to not let you waste his time and rack needless kilometers on a brand new WRX, a car nearly $20,000 out of your price range.

Maybe you should try testing the WRX STi model instead. Just make sure the salesman stays behind at the "stealership" so you can REALLY test it out, man.

I hope DD can help you out because I hear that the N.Van dealer is really bad too. Especially that Geremy guy. He's a bad egg !!

False. I've driven both the Lancer GTS and 2.5i, and the Impreza is hands down a better car IMO. I bought one! If you were comparing the AWD Lancer Ralliart to the 2.5i, then that's a different story

As for your dealer "troubles", a little advance planning would go a long way my friend. Call around and talk to salesman at the dealers BEFORE going to kick tires. Oh, and 6th gear is a salesman at Specialty in North Van.

Also, try going with a parent, usually give the impression about being alittle more serious then a kid walking in. And it's not that you don't have cash or want to buy it's the impression that counts.

I've driven both as well James, IMO the lancer 'feels' torquier around town for normal driving but the 2.5i is 'more fun' to drive. At the end of the day though, you can get way better options on the Lancer (bluetooth, a 650watt Rockford Fosgate sound system, comfy leather seats, sirius radio etc.) which make it a more tempting option for the average guy... unless you need the AWD.

When I was looking at wrx's I went to doc's and they had a red 04 wrx wagon in the look which they let me drive right away no problem - I think its still there it only has like 38k on it.. I wanted it pretty bad but the price was a little high... anyway moral of the story is they should let you drive one no prob.. I am also 23..

Maybe I have just been spoiled when I have been test driving in the past, this is my third car, but I have always been treated very well. I felt as though these people did not consider me business.

I dont care if there's 10 people coming in every day that want to test pilot a car, I care about my personal experience at each dealership.

The Richmond salespeople didn't even show the gusto to brave the cold and come earn themselves some commission, and the girl with the bad attitude in Langley sold my buddy out of the Impressa sale.

I would have easily gone through the whole speech about the cars options to test drive the car but neither sales person wanted to take the time to go their.

With the economy the way it is, the car industry should be bending over backwards to satisfy their customers, if not they will do exactly what im going to do, look elsewhere.

True... but I haven't driven it for over 2 months. I found my mom's SUV even more fun. Maybe it's because it's got like 2x the torque

I had excellent luck with Docsteader. They let me test drive an 08 WRX so i could seal the deal on pre-ordering my 08 STI (3month wait).

Tell that to my RRSPs and all the people being laid off.

I know quite a few people who've been affected.

the only people i know are the ones which are directly related to the states.

our economy, especially vancouver, is still running fine and we will have a small boom when the olympics hit.

rrsp's are bull**** anyways, tfsa is the new way.
