Anyone know where and how to disable the ABS system on the '02 Outback Limited Wagon? I looked in the fuse box in the engine compartment but some of the fuses has crptic descriptions and couldn't figure out which fuse to pull (if that's even the right way).
I wanted to disable the ABS because the ABS freaks out when I'm driving in the mountains with snow/ice patch. On the side note, has anyone noticed that when the ABS kicks in, the throttle doesn't seem to work? Throtlle seems to return only after ABS wears off. Not that I'm doing Left foot braking or anything... and even if I did/tried, no throttle when ABS kicks in.. Is that a standard feature?? Thanks for any inputs.

Do you have the VDC? That may be the reason that the throttle input is disabled when abs is active. I havn't noticed it on my GT, even at auto-Xs.

![]() My friend asked me to test it by trying left foot braking on a straight road and it seems like I can't over power my brakes in any gear.. ABS didn't come on cuz I'm just doing light braking. I've got the 5 speed manual, btw. |

The abs fuse should be in the fuse box down by the clutch pedal.
That's where it is on my car, along with some other fuses for things such as the horn and foglights. The back panel of the fuse box cover should list what is what. |

I don't remember seeing a fuse box by the clutch. Hmm, I'll check around the clutch tonight.. do you also have a fuse box in the engine comparment right next to the wiper fluid?
Thanks. |

take a ABS sensor out (it's held in by 1 screw on the back side of the dust guard for the rotor) bang it against something and put it back in. That's what happened to mine, but not on purpose.

Welp, guess not many people with 02 legacy. However, I did fnd the ABS fuse. There's a fuse junction plate right behind the coin holder by the left knee area.. just open the holder and pull it out.
Though it's interesting to find that there's 2 ABS fuse.. one for the front and one for the back wheel (I think.. as the description says). I guess I'll test out the car with the fuses out.. The fuse for the back ABS is also linked to the cruise control though.. argh.. no long trips.. |
