I'm just curious if anyone has any suggestions on how to sell a US car in Vancouver, that I haven't thought about yet?
I'm heading over to Europe in a couple of weeks for 6 to 12 months and would love to sell my 2007 STi Limited prior to going. I've advertised it in the usual places and had some good interest, but no bites yet. I'm considering the option of just wholesaling it off to a dealer if I don't move it prior to my departure, which I know is going to hurt ($$$). I spoke with all the Subaru dealers in Vancouver today though, and they all told me that they do not buy US cars... There's been some interesting threads on here regarding service on US cars in Canada, but I didn't see anything on reselling a US car. Any ideas? Thanks...

Hey 007WRX, any thoughts on what a fair price for a 2007 STi is in Van?
I priced mine at $36K based on seeing ad's ranging from $35K to $39K. |

It's a bit tough to sell one that is still under warranty due to the games played by Subaru Canada and the dealers with US cars. Once it's out of the factory warranty, it's no longer an issue. Your car for all intents and purposes can be considered not to have a warranty.
That being said, the local car market is a bit tough and everyone is cheap, they tend to shop the bottom of the market for price and will gladly buy a shiny bondoed back together wreck to save a few bucks (probably with a rolled back odometer too). |

Hey Qbase, if you don't mind me asking... What did you pay for your 2007 STi? It's easy to find out what the asking prices of these are, but not so easy to find out what the selling price is

The only other 2007 STi Limited I've seen in Van is at Trinity for $37,888. It's got a bit less mileage than mine, but not much...

As someone that has sold a few cars, you have a very hard time selling if you're not the cheapest in the paper - you could very well still have the car in six months if you're not aggressive with the price.

The other deal killer with your car is that the buyer will have to pay GST as well as PST on what initially appears to be a private sale.

To the OP, with the exchange rate now, it cost a lot more to import a car over from the US so people are pricing their US cars a bit more now.... I guess it's hard to find the right buyer who has the $$ to buy a car right now...

Ya your best bet is here, IWSTI, craiglist, Revscene etc....I found that with the pay adds I actually got less inquiries from them. I have bought and sold a few US cars... It's wierd a lot of people think just because it's a US car they should pay way less for it or that there is something wrong with it. Because it's a US car, and even though it was made in the same place. You have a car that alot of people want, a Subaru STi without the ricer big wing and boy racer blue seats.
. Personally I would get a new front lip on it, it's part of what makes it a limited and might make it easier with all the factory parts on it and in a undamaged state. I would also not advertise it's a US car but tell them in person once they fall in love with it.![]() |

Considering the buyer will still have to pay GST and PST on your car 36,000 really doesn't sound like a good deal even for an STI Limited.
A brand new base model 09 STI has a MSRP of under 40,000 and it will be brand new with full warranty. |

People brag about how cheap they got their US cars for compared to buying a Canadian market car. Guess what, when it's time to sell, an informed buyer will know that and try to adjust the price accordingly. If I was looking at a US car I would base my offer on what that year/model was selling for in the nearest US city (with a little added on to pay for the trouble of importing). Just my opinion, I'm sure there's people out there willing to pay the same price as a local car. And as far as the actual car goes, of course it's just as good as one sold locally. |
