Default -1 for specialty subaru north van

So I work for a car dealership and generally people/companys in the industry get cheaper prices between other dealerships on parts and in some cases, labour. Even without working for a dealership the price they quoted me for a set of front brake pads is absolutely insane!

my discounted cost:
1 set front brake pads for a 98 subaru 2.5rs $156 + tax

are you kidding me?
for a set of stock pads! wtf!
this is the 3rd time I have had bad dealings with specialty. Either I have been mis-quoted for the price of parts - told one price on the phone, and had to pay something significantly higher when I went to pick up the parts, got charged more on a repair than quoted, or just had bad service from the parts staff.

Um, why would you go to a dealership for pads for a 10 year old car?

2009 - 1998 = 10+

and I do agree on why buy stock pads in general, you can get better aftermarket pads for less 100% of the time. OEM is great if you never touch the car and have a warranty, but if it's outta warranty (which this one is) I wouldn't get stock parts if I can get something better with same or better oem quality for less.

oem pads = normally quieter, and decent life out of them. if you dont need the performance there is no problem with oem. also they dont accelerate the wear of your rotors, and are made specifically for your ride.

I dont see why so many people have problems with oem, unless your upgrading for performance, I think they are some of the best parts out there.

lordco = raybestos = crap
there are aftermarket brands that are good, but there are trade-offs. better braking, might mean accelerated pad wear, or excessive brake dust, etc...
so for this aplication oem was going to be a good choice, and its not the pads im talking about, its specialtys service.
We also deal with Richmond subaru and just for kicks I called them for my price on brake pads $89

thats my rant

Well at that price I hope they last four times as long

I can't say I've ever had a problem with squeaking on any of the aftermarket pads I've ever used.

I usually just buy them from NAPA these days as I have an account and they deliver them to me. I even have NAPA pads on the Brembo's on my GT-R and can't complain about them..........

haha, dont get me wrong, i use aftermarket stuff on my own cars all the time, and rarely have any issues

working here tho, I have found alot of issues when people come in and have aftermarket parts on their cars. mostly the crap lordco brake pads causing noise...

it was just a rant about the price of their pads, not about what is better or worse

So your opinion is that the ENTIRE dealership sucks because they have expensive pads....

Not just that, he's complaining that good pads are more expensive than lower quality pads...

Thats like the other day, I went to this restaurant and it was like 20 bucks for a steak! It's only $2 for a cheeseburger at mcdonalds, but those are gross. That restaurant sucks. They should sell the steak for the same price as the mcdonalds cheeseburger.

I guess you missed this part of my post? about them having poor service, not standing behind their quotes, having grossly inflated parts prices and offering me a discounted price of $156 for brake pads.

Im quabbling about the price because any other dealership (including other subaru dealerships), for oem pads on a smallish car approx the same size, are way cheaper. brake pads for a brand new tundra are cheaper. thats my reasoning.

and im ragging on the service/parts dept's not sales dept....

Good thing you don't own an Audi/ BMW or Mercedes you would pay over that for a pair of wipers and the install!

Dealership parts ARE expensive. Why so surprised?

Buy the damn pads at Subaru Genuine Parts for $65 USD, watch your language in the forum, and stop being a whiner.

Oh, how about asking Richmond, Wolfe & Docksteader their prices on the same parts? I bet they are the same, or very close.

Here you go, $65 USD from SGP:

that's not new.
I was quoted I believe $180 for FRONT OEM brakes at Richmond Subaru.

Yea, that's right. Richmond Subaru.
FTL.

on a brighter note, I was quoted $80 for FRONT HAWK HPS pads at Lordco with Discount.
FTW.

guys, come on, you have to read more....
i did call another dealership, and got them for $60 less.

now do you understand my rant? when 1 dealership quotes me a discounted price $60 more than another one?
and they both are supposed to be giving me industry rate on the parts?

Its not about what I can get the parts for from SGP and have them shipped, this is a dealership calling another dealership for parts for a customers car in the shop.
