Default k&N Air Filter?

what is the function of the oil on/in the air filter? Benefits?

Help trap fine dust and bad stuff. Also allows the filter to be cleaned and re-oiled. That's how you get the 1,000,000 mile warranty. It's the same deal with most high performance filters.

I justed cleaned and re-oiled my air filter. The K&N kit says that the oil is what allows the filter to allow better air flow. I don't really know, but it was easy and cheap (like $8 for the cleaning, re-oil kit).
