Impreza GC8 06+ RS swap into 00 RS

Has anyone swapped a later model 2.5i into an RS? If so was it a straight up swap? I know there has to be wiring changes with the variable valve functionality. Just trying to see who if anyone has tried it and how did it perform over stock 2.5L in the RS.

Live long, Drive Subaru!

Not to rain on the parade, but I don't think it would be really worth it.

In my eyes it wouldn't be a improvement so much as a lateral move to similar performance.

I'm imagining it more as, my engine is going out and I need to replace it, but I don't want do a turbo swap.

Would the difference be so minimal as to constitute just buying a new block to plug n play?
