What do you define as a "governor chip"?

It's a chip that you put in your car that bipasses the rev limiter and basically makes it go faster. I'm not incredibly familiar with how they specifically work, but my friend put one in his Bimmer and it makes a big difference, so I was wondering if I could get one for my subaru

The only way to bypass the rev limiter on our cars is to either remap the ECU or get new cams from what I know.
But there are types of chips around like the ProECM chip and the Torque Chip (forget which brand that is) that help with power distribution in different ways. There are also stand-alone engine management systems of course, but those are a little different from what your talking about But nothing that gives quite as big of difference as the Beemer chips ive heard about, and even the audi chips that turn the 1.8 turbo's into monsters...

The chips for BMW's(any cars?) do a lot more than just remove the rev limiter, you're not going to get 10-15 HP from 500 extra rpms (thats all the extra revs you get), it does remove the electronic speed governor(128MPH I think) They change timing and **** like that to take better advantage of higher octane gas. But to answer your question about subie chips, I dont have a clue.

Yep its not the same cause we got no TURBO. A stock turbo car can net some big ass hp/torque numbers with a single "chip" upgrade.

Yeah, my buddy has an APR chip in his A4. It was $300 and gave him 50 HP. Thats because his doubled his boost from about 7 psi to 14.7. It also changed ignition and fuel and raised the rev limiter to 7,000. Nothing comes close that I have seen for subarus. Wish we had something that would give us 50 horsepower for $300.

Do a search for ProECM in this forum and you'll see LOTS of information regarding the chip.
