06s are even heavier, 200-500lbs seems pretty accurate to me

Too lazy to look it up yourself?

yeah, my range was in deference to saying DO A SEARCH NOOB! I figured my response was nicer since I wasn't going to spend my time looking up exact numbers when it would take him just as much time to go look for himself. If he took the time to look around, I bet it is in one of the FAQ in one of our other forums... And a vague broad questions deserves a vague broad answer...

It's largely the 6 spd tranny and the 2.5l engine, though even the brakes and wheels contribute to it. And, as you said, that damned wing...

rear diff, hubs and axles are heavier on the sti than they are on the wrxs and rs's as well. i don't think the increased displacement adds much more weight unless the pistons are a lot heavier

aftermarket hood on a usdm WRX will not save you significant weight. your stock hood is aluminum and really dosnt weigh very much........ the STi Gc8 hood is lighter than any CF hood ive touched (not saying it cannot happen - mab a dry carbon $$$$ hood would be lighter). i'd put money that swapping hoods on a GDA GAINED you weight.

rear end swap on a GC8 to GDB (180+brembos) may gain about 50 lbs. the R180 is ~8 lbs heavier thant he R160- a r180 weighs 49 lbs or so according to fedex scale. id say the R180 cannot weigh more than 10 lbs more.

the axels u may gain 5-7 lbs on the 2 of them, the hubs perhaps 5-6 lbs gain on the both?

the most heavy part is the rear brake rotors. the stinkin brembo rotors are PIGS.
id say ~ 8 lbs EACH = 16#'s. the calipers are aluminum and actually lighter by perhaps a pound total?

so:

at most-
r180 - 10
axels - 7
hubs - 6
rotors - 16
calipers - (negative 1)

so about +55 lbs for the R180 rear end.

The STI is even heavier than the 1999 Legacy Outback wagon.

The auto weighs 3252lbs

The 5spd weighs 3160lbs

the 1996 model might have been even lighter?
