U.S. will miss out on Audi A4 Allroad quattro

Audi is citing low demand as its main reason for not bringing over the new model
Quote:
Audi will be unveiling its new A4 Allroad quattro at next month’s Geneva Motor Show but the toughened up Avant on stilts won’t be heading to the U.S. anytime soon. Despite Audi’s recent new model onslaught on the U.S. market, the A4 Allroad has been ruled out for now.
The information comes from Audi’s American public relations manager, Bradley Stertz, who told KickingTires that there is interest in the car but the numbers are simply not high enough to justify bringing it over. Another hurdle, according to Stertz, is the relatively high expense of having the vehicle pass stringent U.S. emissions and crash safety standards.
The A4 Allroad is the perfect competitor for cars like the Subaru Outback and the Volvo XC70, which currently dominate a segment with very few players. However, considering that only 7% of Audi A4 sales in the U.S. are the Avant model (about 3,000 units), the Allroad would have likely accounted for even lower sales.
Europeans will get their first taste of the car in the middle of the year and pricing has been confirmed to start at €37,100.
