You don't REALLY need it, but if you drive alot, it WILL improve your mileage... (just having the real time display visible changes the weight of your foot.)

I've heard that the scangauges aren't quite as good as the scanmasters. I bought a scanmaster3 a couple of weeks ago and I love it.

they are completely different products (and $100 between them) The scanmaster isn't a trip computer, it has absolutely no trip functions at all compared to a scanguage. It does logging/performance stuff, things that are only added as secondary features on a scangauge.

Honestly scanmasters are pretty much useless because you can log data to a laptop MUCH cheaper directly (using an ebay or tactrix cable), and they don't provide nearly the functionality for daily driving that a scanguage does. And you can get better performance stats from a g-tech.

I just bought one of those. It is a really nice unit but the logging rate is a bit slow and it has limited parameters.

I paid $119 in 2003 for my CP9135 and it has proved to be one of my best buys ever. It has never failed to read codes on anything I've plugged it into....and that is hundreds of cars of all makes.
It has paid for itself 100 times over.
It lives in my car

I think the only thing better than the CP9180 above would likely be a laptop/netbook and cable and the proper software.

I'm now looking at ssd netbooks to use for logging/tuning

I have only played with the 9180 for a few min so far. It seems as capable as the snapon unit my buddy has at a much lower price. I had a 9135 but it doesn't read CAN bus so I had to upgrade. I have my 9135 for sale here:

Does anyone know if the scan gauge II can detect emissions readiness? I know it reads and deletes codes, but want about emissions readiness.

Make and store up to 10 rewritable special codes
