Default How do you fix a stripped seat bolt?

k well i was in my car the other night and noticed the back screw on my passenger seat, the one closest to the center console, is totally loose
i have no clue how it happened cause i havent taken my seats out or touched the bolts, but its stripped and is completely out now
i get the bolt all the way in, try to tighten it, and it just slips
is there any way to fix it that you guys know of?
or would i have to drill a bigger hole?

if the hole isnt really bad you can try re threading it. but chances are its bad and you might have to tap to a bigger size. not sure how much room is in there for tapping tho.

I would try manually running a tap through it first to see if you can get lucky on repairing the threads.

Worse cause step up one size and tap new treads and find corresponding bolt from hardware store(grade 8)[thats how I would roll]

Damn Brody!!

harbor freight you can get a basic tap set.

I havent had time to find out the bolt size I may have the taps necessary. if you can find out let me know and Ill check taps.

I just saw where you are located, buying from harbor frieght would be cheaper than meeting me twice haha. you can buy invidual taps aswell at certain places autozone checker

some may even rent sets out, im not sure

That is an odd size if I remember correctly. Normally for a 10mm bolt is a 1.5 thread pitch and a 12mm is 1.75 but the bolt seems to be a tighter pitch than that. I am going to swap my seat tonight and look at the thread. I don't know that there is enough meat on there anyway for a heli-coil, it's only the thickness of the transmission tunnel I believe.
