Default Cyclops' official swap thread. White 2000 coupe, stroked ej207, whole lotta STI

Edit: Here's the motor build thread if you're interested. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1687625

Okay, well I'd put this in the project forum but apparently that's not allowed. My name is Cyclops and I am a Subaruholic. My last car was a 2002 WRX wagon, pictures are below. It was my DD and my project car and was a ton of fun but it was a pain in the ass having a DD project car. I sold it and bought an ML55 and a 2000 2.5rs. The 2.5rs is my new project car. This thread is going to be a complete start to finish journal of my fun times swapping. The one thing I really regret with my wagon was I never took enough pictures of the process.

Here is my old wagon and also a picture of the Mercedes.

Okay so here is post one about the RS. ProdrivenAuto, a vendor here on NASIOC sold me this car. It was in a front end collision up high. No bags popped, just basically took out the hood, one fender, front bumper, radiator, and a bunch of support pieces. The frame is good and it runs and drives great. Here is the basic rundown on my plans so far and some pictures the insurance auction took.

-First of all strip the bad stuff off
-Take it back to stock and get it inspected and titled
-Swap in my '07 STI driveline I have in my wagon, including Brembos, tranny, r180, Spiider dual mode DCCD controller, etc.
-Swap in a full dash, ECU, wiring harness, steering rack, subframe, intake manifold, gas tank, steering wheel, gauges, auto hvac, center console, etc from a wrecked STI owned by ProdrivenAuto
-Swap in the stroked ej207 I have being built my Maxwell Power
-Throw on a rotated 35r kit

Here are the exterior mods I currently have planned:
-CF hood, trunk lid, and RB5 wing all with a really light coat of white over it so you can see the carbon but it looks white (see picture below with SRP over carbon)
-Lightwerkz projectors
-Painted skirts
-5% tint all around
-Spec C RA-R wheels (see picture below)
-Brembos of course
-STI grill
-V5 front bumper with a lip and fog covers

The pictures of the paint and wheels:

I got it from ProdrivenAuto. I think he just got it through his dealer down at an auction in Cali.

Okay so here is day one of the first real work done since I got the RS. Time to pull stuff off. The hood was toast, but I did salvage the scoop and vents. The lights were gone, bumper beam was gone, skin was gone, and one fender was gone. The core support needs to be totally removed and a new one put in its place. The motor is good, one tiny little crack on the timing belt cover. The radiator is junk as well as both fans. The fender liners will need to be replaced also. The rear bumper skin doesn't have to be replaced for inspection but it will need to be when I go to the body shop. The interior was also taken apart and kind of messy. It's still messy but at least cleaned up a little now.

Here are the pictures from that day:

No more work done on the car just yet. I need to pull the radiator core support still. I get paid Friday which means a whole lot of parts are going to be ordered. I found a radiator and fans here on NASIOC from a local guy so I'll be picking those up really soon. I'll be able to throw that on and it'll run and drive great. I also called the body shop today so I'm going down there soon to get the ball rolling on that. Next couple weeks should be very good for the RS!

So I got some work done today. I cut out the old core support with a saw just to get the big parts out. I didn't get all the little bits yet, though. I removed the AC because it was already drained after the crash. I bought all of the body parts I need to get it back to stock. I filled up the coolant and the oil and took it for a drive. God I can't wait to get it back to stock. I ****ing looooove this car. The next few days will be great progress for the RS.

It runs!!!

It's going real slow but it's coming! I ordered more parts today. I also changed the oil and took out the stock Lamco gauges. Those are up for sale now. I topped off the coolant and fired it up and it's running really good. I really want to get a front end on it so I can take it for a real drive. I've got almost all of the stuff that I need to swap in my six speed now. It's really all starting to come together now.

Are you going to run the RS with the stock engine and STI 6spd until your new engine is built up?

Yeah I am. I think I'll be swapping it all in about 2 weeks. When I do that I'll have the Brembos, 6 speed, and all that good stuff. No sway bars but who cares?! It'll bolt right up to the stock rs 2.5 liter except I'll need the clutch slave.

Nice, what was the outcome of the block? Did Dom get it taken care of or do you need to toss the block?

Yes, it will be at Shandra's garage in Everett. I could definitely use a hand. It'll probably take two full days to get everything right. Beer and pizza is on me. I will be buying a clutch slave cylinder, Cusco tranny mount, and new rotors and pads this week and then I'm good to go. Hopefully it's all here by two weeks from today.

And Nick, the motor is good. They took it to .017" over and there is barely a shadow left. The last .003 over will make it perfect. Did you see my motor build thread? I've been posting about all of that.

Today I talked to the body guy. He is going to help me weld in my core support for pretty cheap on the side. I drilled out the old core support spot welds today. I got all of the old broken crap out. One of the rails is a little bit tweaked but it shouldn't be a big deal at all. Everything came out pretty easily. I also fixed my alternator belt and took off the windshield washer fluid reservoir and the other fender to make everything easier. So far it all looks pretty good. Everything bad is officially off. Time to put it back together. Oh I ordered the CF hood from W1 today also. Most everything is ordered now. Oh I replaced the batter tie down too.
