Default AHAHHAA update on my car....ie, OT help me decide on my next move.

HEll0 Otters!!

well I'm having an interesting week to say the least.
Here is the quick breakdown.
I go get car. I get in car with installer to test drive and make sure all is good.
Everything drives well, BUuuUuuUuUt my speed sensor breaks again and I have no speedo.
At this point both he an I are frustrated and we decide that I'm just going to take the car home for the time being, and go back down to deal with the speed sensor next week.

yay, I ahve my car back..she looks great, everything feels good (she now has PPGs (1-4), 4/2pots (new) new drive train, new diff, new everything...WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I get the car home (approx 150 mile drive, event free...everything is good).

Battery sizzles and almost blows up. YAY. NO biggie, I replace the battery, check my voltage on the alternator, and everyttrhing is back up and running again. Put the new battery in, car starts up like a champ and all is good.

So, I decide to take my car to the local grocery store to do some food shopping. She starts right up, happy with her new battery, and I drive her to the store (3 miles away).

Get to the store, do my shopping, go back into car and now she doesn't want to start. chug chug chug chug...nothing.
4 mins go by of chugging, and finally she starts up. I drive her home (lookin like this ) and park her for the remainder of the day.

Day after: I try to start her and she isn't hearing it. Chug chug chug, nothing. I do this for approx 10 mins and I get nothing..it sounds like I'm not getting spark (HOW?!?!?!? NO FRIGGEN IDEA! IT JUST worked 2 days ago).

I changed the plugs and wires, nothing.
CHeck the ECU ( i have stand alone ecu), all wiring is good and the ecu is getting the proper voltage etc. Still won't start. 3 days later and still won't start.

SOoooooooooooOoo..it started fine until I got it here (which is typical considering I don't have a garage, I park on the street...and it is snowing/raining right now and I'm going to get a few parking tickets soon). I don't have my tools and I honestly have no clue wtf to do with the car now.

So, I'm going to tow the car somewhere (DSG or whatever) and have them look over it.

I'm growing tired of this BS...and I think the main problem is probably the Ecu.

FOr those who don't know, this what I have
98RS w/ Sti shortblock, 2.5RS heads (rebuilt, all of this has approx 4k miles on it), WRX tranny with PPGs and full wrx drivetrain, rallispec NA turbo kit (t3/t4 turbo 3" exhuast etc).beautiful body Car dynos at 240whp + 280wtq at DSG.

damn near everything except for the body is new but the body is in great shape and the car looks amazing.

So, here are my options
1. sell it, take a loss but get something stock so I can finish school with my sanity/a reliable car (this seems to be the best option, but I hate to give her up).

2. Replace ECU with something better, like a hydra or something. Note: using the 98RS ecu is NOT an option, it is impossible to tune and no one has ANY info on tuning with a 98rs ecu. Cost of a hydra is somewhere around $1200, but I could sell my Link and not be out that much money. THis also seems feasible.

3. Replace heads/intake manifold, and do a harness swap (wrx/sti) with ECU and use open ecu to tune or something. This may not work due to the turbo kit though. COst..a lot.

4. Replace heads/intake manifold/harness/ecu AND turbo kit with an STi swap and sell all my turbo parts. This will COST me more money, but should be reliable and I'll finally have a somewhat 'normal' car. I lose performance, but I gain reliability. Cost: A lot, but I gain a lot. This also allows me to use newer aftermarket parts down the road.

5. cry (been there, done that)

6. profit (HAHAHA not really).

I've had a real bitch of a time with this car (as you may have noticed).
I'm at a loss. I have a lot invested into this car (both financially and emotionally) but I don't want to chase down something that isn't worth it.
I've always wanted a GC Sti...I think mechanically, the car is there...so I'm deciding on either going the extra mile and being done, or not bothering and just getting something more practical. As soon as a graduate, I plan on buying a normal daily driver and making this car a track car/fun car.

discuss.

Need a UTEC for a 02-05 WRX ? Ive got one for cheeeeeep

Good luck with whatever you decide, it sounds like you have turned the corner of "fun project car" and gone into "I cant depend on this for Daily Driver" mode. Been there, done that. Went back to stock.

yep
I figured this is the last step though, it has EVERYTHING it needs to last a while (until someone rear ends me or something). all the mechanical shi is new, all of it is done with good quality stuff, but it isn't dependable right now.

Did you even get it inspected? Why did you decide to go with NA-T with Link ECU[?], instead of just getting getting a WRX merged harness in the first place???

Just fix it and drive it man. I think whatever fried your battery fried something else and you have no fuel or no spark now. You're in Albany right? Synapse in Scotia could probably figure it out and trailer the car out of there for ya. They still do all the work on my car and have a couple other subies there now.

Kieith, do you have a working IAC? Is it powered by the link or the factory ecu?

Let me know if you choose option #1. I figure my next big upgrade is swapping the engine + turbo kit out of my STI into a GC.

Jesus Christ dude.

Marc's VW in Round Lake has been great to me... not sure if he would tackle this.

Did you talk to Alex/Bill/Matt to see what they think?

You should have gotten rid of this massive headache long ago. You're getting a little old for a bright blue car with bright gold rims anyway. You study neuroscience (right?) not Paul Walker cinema.

Get rid of it, you'll have plenty of time to build another one(have another one built?) once you're raking in the $$$.

Keif, get a nice 2 lbs. rubber mallet and put that shifter I sent you into the car. If nothing else, it'll help get out some frustration without destroying anything. They are a bitch to get in and require some fine adjustment hits with the mallet to go in. Read: Hit the ****er with everything you've got. I still haven't gotten around to getting the knob shipped to you, but I will. Sorry your car is still b0rked man. I was really hoping it was going to be finally coming together this time. I say make whoever was working on it do it right for you. Obviously there is a short somewhere, it took out your speed sensor and now something else. Do not accept anything else other than them fixing the problem.
