Angry My neighbor is crazy!!!

So i was outside working on the brat today trying to start it up. My last attempt was a somewhat success as it started but didn't stay running.

She comes out with her yappy ass dog and starts taking pictures of me and my car.

Now since my tent collapsed over the winter everything is really messy. I was planning on setting up a new tent tomorrow or the weekend as i bought a new one a few months ago.

Her deck overlooks all of this. She started complaining saying that what i am doing is illegal. Turns out she is right. Apparently there is a bylaw stating that I'm not allowed to have a vehicle incapable of normal operation. Also I'm apparently violating noise laws.

The other time she complained to me she started off by spraying me with a garden hose...

she also says that i shouldn't be out working on my car without adult supervision. After informing her of my age (21) she said, "well you're not mature enough then."

What really bugs me is her husband is always working on their house with power tools at crazy times of day. (sometimes 10:30-11pm) She also has that yappy dog that she just lets outside to bark for hours.

I phoned the non-emergency police line and told them my story and they said i should phone the city tomorrow and inform them of what is going on. I was currently not doing anything illegal enough to bring a cruiser around though.

My neighbor gave me an ultimatum saying that if i don't have it gone within a week she is going to take action...?

Any thoughts and comments on the matter?

this is really pissing me off and needed to vent!

Have you tried to talk to her face to face? She may be a crazy bitch but you will never know until you do.

If her husband works on their house with power tools at crazy times of the day, complain to her, or even record those instances and report it. Tell her that she's violating noise laws.

Or if you want, we can form a subaru meet around your hood after 10pm and let her hear what a boxer engine sounds like hahah j/k

i tried multiple times to talk to her. The first time her response was, "i can't talk to you! you're to young!"

When i tried to today she just yelled at me then went inside. She came back out to yell and i tried to talk to her but she once again said her piece and left.

I guess you should make sure YOUR garden hose is handy whenever you are outside.

I would get the tent set up A.S.A.P. and clean up and tidy the mess as much as possible.

Also make sure you write everything down, dates, times, etc, that they make noise late and that she hosed you down. (wow I think if she did that to me I would have atleast retured the favor or shoved it up her ass.

Basicaly she seems to trying to bully you because you are young.

That is funny that she said you needed adult supervision while working on your own car.

Other then that I would keep doing what you are doing working on a project car till it's drivable. And I would state that to the city if she does complain then the city may give you a warning or a deadline. Other then that just ignore her or tell to her and her yappy dog to shut the ****-up!

Humm I better get my MR.2 up and running before my neighbors start complaining too!

Seriously, you just need to keep the yard clean. Also check Coquitlam bylaws to see when you can make noise but unless you have no muffler on and are using air tools, I can't see it being too noisy.

WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING. When she sprayed you, when she yells at you, when her dog is barking (that is usually violating bylaws too), when her husband is working on the house, etc. That way, when **** blows up you have documentation.

Spraying you with a hose I believe is technically assault.

Next time her dog is out barking, call the SPCA. I'm a dog owner and I'd never leave my dog outside yapping for more then a couple minutes. Once he starts I get out there and calm him down and/or bring him in.

Is this in a strata lot?

you're ****ed if it is.

if its on your own personal property and no strata governs the grounds, then you have every right to do whatever you want except violate noise bylaws.... normally noise bylaws only come into effect after 9 or 10pm though and sometimes sundays. but from mon-sat 7am-10pm you can make as much "necessary" noise as you want. extremely loud music with swearing is unnecessary and doing burnouts/revving your engine falls into that category too.

why dont you try talking to her husband?

usually strata rules ban storing a vehicle with no insurance and you are usually not allowed to perform repairs of any kind either.

Funny thing - my wife works at your local detachment.

She could be charged with assault for spraying you with the hose (not that likely as you are young and she will spin a big story about feeling threatened and having to defend herself - if you sprayed her with the hose, you would likely find yourself in handcuffs though).

I highly doubt there is anything she can do about you and what you're doing.

I personally would just make a big sign that says "shut up and go take your medicine" and keep it handy but out of sight. Next time she comes out and starts ragging on you pull it out and stick it on your lawn.

Video tape her next time she comes out too.

It's unfortunate, but there are a lot of psycho's out there. The good thing is, they can be pretty easy to drive absolutely rabid by not actually doing anything wrong

I know for a fact that a sign would absolutely drive her right up the wall - probably to the point of trying to remove it (which she cannot trespass on your property and do).

Maybe you should put some of these facing her house too

A constant barking dog is a bylaw offence. Record times when the dog barks and if you can get two or three neighbors to also make a statement agreeing with the times of the dog yapping the city can take action and impose a fine.
As for uninsured vehicles, as said above as long as it is not on city property no one can do anything. One thing you do have to watch out for is having an unsightly property. If she complains enough and makes a big enough stink about it the city can take action against you and clean up FOR you and give you a bill. I know because i used to work for the city of richmond and i dealt with people like your neighbor before.

Bwah ha ha ha ha!!

Put the tent back up. As long as that isn't violating a bylaw, you are probably fine.

And no Loomin, you can't do whatever the **** you want on your own property. If the municipality wants to pass a bylaw telling you you need a permit to pick your nose, then you need a permit to pick your nose (and likely scratch your bum too)

yup bylaws a freaking ****ty, but at the sametime you can appreciate them, freaking double edged sword.

yup make sure you're not breaking any bylaws and you should be good, I second the video taping and the Youtube it.

well, i cant see a justifiable (?) reason for needing a permit to take part in a perfectly legal "hobby". maybe if you were working on other peoples cars all the time and you were taking in income you might need a business permit?

also, it may be unsightly but its not as unsightly as alot of places ive seen in the neighborhood my work is located. now theres some DUMPS down there. garbage, rats, needles, condoms, crackheads and hookers, even the occasional stomp down the door with guns drawn drug bust... ive seen it all. nothing changes.....

It just depends on the municipality you are in. "non-driveable condition" vehicle bylaws aren't uncommon. The intention is not to prevent pusuing a hobby and having nicely restored classic cars, although the laws might be poorly written. It is to avoid the classic rustbucket with grass growing through the engine bay or "projects" sitting there for years with little progress *cough*
