30 years old, soon to be 31. 2003 WRX, bone stock for now, aside from stereo.

Exterior-wise? I might get Rota Attack 17"s, use the stock wheels for winter. Maybe some real light tint all around, but that's about it.

Oh, and i'll eventually get Lightwerkz to fab up some retrofitted projectors... not that this would change the look tons.

I'm 37 and only exterior mods are cleared bugeyes, tinted windows, debadged trunk, and black stock rims. Most of my mods are performance.

Though I have been eyeing the 135, I don't if I could ever part with my wrx.

07 tr wrb, stg2 tbe, sways, team dynamics wheels, Dunlop starspecs, short shifter, lightweight crank pulley, evox recaro seats, front lip/sti rear diffuser. Looking to get an x-brace, light weight battery and front bumper.

i've been into the modding "scene" for haha...decades now. From modifying carts when we were pre-teens, welding cages on them before you could buy them WITH a cage and making our own damn live axles...got into stereo and custom fabrication at the ripe age of 14 and that's been my main thing besides building offroad rigs and crazy fast cars.

So yeh, i don't think i have plans to "outgrow" my WRX. I love it.

Wife isn't to into, thinks my other cars look better, but my 2 daughters (7 and 4) dig it cause it's fast and sounds cool.

Currently:

Stage II
Rota T2R 18x9.5
tinted
of course stereo stuff...and i'm in the midst of a complete sound overhaul with custom trunk side panels,etc....

34 but I'll be 35 next month. I've been wanting a WRX for years and finally bought my 07 Limited Wagon a few months ago. So far I don't have any mods (except for the DRL delete) but I would like to go to a Cobb stage 2 when funds permit.

Edit: And a CBE. And a sedan fender conversion. And a new stereo. And an STi engine/tran swap...

I'm 35, own an 06 STi, 68k miles, and sits in the garage. DOM 3, full engine rebuild, only stock part is the cams and the IM. I'm waiting for my AEM standalone and tune. I have an 06 Sonata to beat on in the mean time.

I haven't driven the car since Feb of last year. I also have an 8 month old, a house and bills to take care of. But once everything settles down, I'll get back to modding.

I miss driving it.

29 married here selling a condo and buying a house.

Id get a STI with nothing more then a lip spoiler and some custom wheels. if an exhaust wasnt that loud i would do it.

but seriously tons of ugly crap that costs alot of money is for dumb kids.

Id rather have a stock looking car with like 450 HP then a body kit.

if i was doing a ground up build of lets say a late 90s coupe i would prolly go as crazy with a factory JDM wrx body parts painted a semiflat gunmetal gray with some metalic flake with black or bronze wheels

On my 2nd wrx, just bought a 2011 wrx, and have done the following: kartboy short shifter, tint, rear whiteline sway and Cobb ap (stage 1 l)!

Hopefully next year gonna buy a forester for the wife!

Been modding for years and don't see that stopping any time soon!

31, just picked up my new to me 06 wrx last week. Already got some winter tires on wheels.
Mod plans: Cobb AP stage 1, buy/make a custom box for my 12" sub, retro HID projectors, add some other lighting, Turboback and stage 2.
Not new to the turbo game, I've had a couple Saab turbos in the past. (hence the name)
ECU, intake and exhaust really woke my old 9000 aero up.

to me do the bushings really make that much differnce? I had poly bushing on a m3 like 8 years ago and all they did was make my ride rough and squiky

I'm just wondering because this will dictate how I build my car when I pay it off. Im currently 28 and like the racer look, but not sure if it would look cool when im above 30, (ex. too boy racer)
I got my first WRX ('04 alpine white hatch bought in '06 with 35k on it) when I was 31. I don't know about other people, but that's when I could first really afford one. I had to deal with other bills and a house before plunking down 20k on one, but then I like to pay cash, not interest if I can help it (house is my only financed item currently). It had an after-market turbo gage (I didn't like the OEM kPa stuff on the steering column at the time anyway; this mounted in the dash/pillar corner). It also had the short-throw shifter, underseat sub and came with the 6-disc changer. I replaced the head unit with a JVC double-din with single CD and USB port (used the CD player twice after getting USB). I left most everything else stock. I had been contemplating stage 2 for some time, but never did it.

I'm now 36 and just got a promotion at work and so I just traded it in with 80k on it for $10,500 towards a new 2011 Dark Grey Metallic Limited WRX. The local dealer only had one in stock and said ordering one with custom options could be potentially problematic for awhile given the disruptions in Japan. Well, the limited had a lot of what I wanted anyway and makes the '04 wagon look like an ugly duckling by comparison. This is the best looking WRX ever, IMO (even if I wanted the STI instead, I don't like that giant wing on the back; it sticks out like a sore thumb, IMO; I would have changed it; I like the standard WRX spoiler). I thought I liked the wagon look better in '09, but with the extra body kit additions in '11, the sedan is just wicked looking now without being overstated.

In addition to all the standard limited stuff (leather, HID, all weather, etc.), it came with the SPT catback and footwell illumination kit. Unfortunately with my new job, I'm on a trip right now (bummer after getting a new car a week earlier), but I plan to get a short throw shifter/bushings, new gear knob and a turbo gage when I get back along with upgrading the stereo HU and adding a sub plus adding sound deadening material (at least to quiet down the catback drone at highway speeds a bit so it doesn't compete with the stereo so much).

I was considering Subaru's homelink mirror with compass, but another family member has a new Legacy with it and at least factory configured, the garage door controls don't operate without the key being on, which might get annoying or at least take some getting used to. It seems to be standard irritation on Subarus to wire their accessory power ports to be OFF with the car (can't charge a cell phone while away from the car, for example). I suppose it's better security wise for the homelink opener, but then I'd want the stuff disabled if the security system went off anyway, so I'd rather have the garage controls enabled all the time; I normally open the door before I start up (fumes) and shut it after I turn the car off (again fumes). You can just turn on the ignition without starting and turn off the engine without the ignition, but that would take some adjusting. I don't know if you can connect it instead to be on all the time without having the compass come on and slowly drain your battery, though.

I'm not in a hurry to consider Stage 2 on this one since it's already 265hp and I've read the SPT catback isn't that great (i.e. just adding a downpipe and ecu reflash), although the accessory guy at the local dealer has no problem with it (he claims he has his at Stage 2.5 and 296HP at the wheels and unlike the sales guy he assured me they wouldn't hassle me about the warranty; just go with someone like Perrin that warrants the engine if their part causes the problem, or so he claimed.)

The dealer swore to me the newer WRX line doesn't have a break-in period. I'm not sure if I believed them, though....

As for this idea of age versus performance, how many young kids own new Corvettes? In other words, I don't think age has anything to do with it. Unless you have it in your mind that the WRX is now a kiddie/ricer car that you don't want to be associated with (I saw some 'kids' salivating at the dealer when they pulled this one up for a test drive, but they were buying a regular Impreza and next year the lines separate so....) Personally, I don't get all that hate anyway. I've laughed a few times at the fart cans out there, but come on, they're the most fun to blow past at a traffic light anyway (OK that isn't mature either, but sometimes you can't help it).

OTOH, I definitely don't get a lot of the hatred out there for purely aesthetic mods. I mean if looks don't mean anything, why not buy a POS and mod it instead for a sleeper? Anyone who buys a ZR1, Porsche, etc. and claims they don't care about looks is lying out their exhaust port anyway, IMO. I've never seen so much hatred for "underglow" (last time I even looked into it, it was called 'ground effects' so that should give you an idea the last time I looked at it. ), but I have to say I like this subdued blue footwell lighting this car came with and the thought occurred to me extending that subdued effect (not too bright) to under the car wouldn't look too shabby with that charcoal grey look (I can already see some people shaking their heads). But I think blue would be out of the question regardless in most states. I'm thinking changing the footwell lights to red might look a better match to the red dash, regardless (red is also a no-no for under the car in many states so that leaves the effect screwed anyway for a dash match so I've already written the idea out of my head for any lights down there). I'm not sure why Subaru went with two-tone opposites inside, though (red and blue don't really mix in a 'classy' way, IMO, but with the dash buffer zone it's not too bad). Changing the whole dash to blue might be cooler yet (I've seen at least one example and it looked NICE).

I am curious why Subaru put all that nice cross-wire grill work on the car (front and back) and then left out the lower bumper grill area. The only after-market grill I've seen doesn't match the existing pattern precisely so I'd probably leave it alone. Otherwise, there's nothing else I would want to change on the look of this car, really.

I did give some thought to the new V6 Mustang at one point (for combination of decent acceleration and yet good gas milage), but we had the most snow fall EVER this winter where I live and that quickly changed my mind.

I don't know if I got a good deal on the price with the model (limited) and options given. I got them down from $31.5k to ~$29k and they went from $9500 to $10,500 on the trade price so I got it out the door for $21k even. $29 just didn't feel THAT far off from the STI, though.

27, factory ordered a 2011 last Sept, my third scooby in 7 years. Only mods thus far; debadged rear and red grille trim up front, Hawk pads. Planning to do suspension and maybe an AP tune.

I got the car with the intention of it getting me through my 20's, and will probably step to a G37 or 335xi next time around. Though when it's time for a project car, I'm sill hot for a swapped 2.5RS weekend racer/track car.

Fresh out the box....

30 is younger than my 40 yr old daughter- so to me you are just a kid.
I am 69 and have a 2007 STI Ltd [a little more mature] with coilovers and heavy anti-sway bars. I still race in STU solo 2 and do about 4 track days a year.
