Heya -
I'm 31 with an '06 and if it ever dies I'll go for the STI!
Don't believe the hype, its not a kids car.

It's not really hype. The WRX is a fun car to drive, and now that there are a bunch of cheap WRX's for sale everywhere, kids are buying them a lot more frequently. If there's a whole thread devoted to finding people older than 30 who drive a car, doesn't that seem to indicate something? That being said, of course there are plenty of "adults" driving them, too. They're practical, fairly reliable, and a good alternative to driving something boring. That's why I previously owned an '05, '06, and '09 WRX when I was in my 30's.

Is there any car young kids don't drive though?

Most teens buy whatever the hell they can afford. It used to be cheap cars like Sentras, Civics, Neons, Cavaliers, etc. Now you pick up a used WRX for around $6K so there are more kids driving them than ever.

It's just a life stage thing, which is what this thread is kind of all about. At some point many people feel a need to distance themselves from things that may represent a more juvenile mindset. Again, not everyone feels that way, like most of the people posting in this specific thread about 30+ year-old's driving WRX's.

I don't feel stigmatized in the WRX, but I also don't modify it to be super brodude cool and loud as ****.

Also, I find with my WRX:

* It's generally respected by car guys - both domestic and import
* Many non-car people often aren't familiar with the car, and are intrigued by it
* I frequently get compliments on it
* It's not a Honda/Acura

32 here. my 05 STi is coming back in a few weeks with a built motor and an AMS 750r kit on it. Coilovers, te37s, sim replica wing, front lip.

I'm excited.

edit: and since everyone else is posting it, i'm married, 21 mo old daughter, 2 dogs, house, white collar, mba, blah blah blah. besides the subaru, have an 06 xB as a daily, an 86 ae86 as another project, and an 04 RC51 streetbike. just put racing bikes on hold to raise a family, but fully plan on racing again in the future.

33 here, two kids (four door just made sense), house, job, and thinking about going back to school. I've been day dreaming about owning a WRX for 10 years, and finally found myself in a financial position to actually make it happen. I sold a drag mustang project car to a friend to pay off another vehicle loan that I had and clean up my credit. My kids and I traveled 450mi to pick up the WRX that I bought online. The car in question is a 2009 WRX hatch. I bought the car to DD it. I've only owned the car for 3-4 months and have put 5000mi on it since. My only regret in buying the car was waiting so long to buy it. The next car I'm going to purchase is going to be a WRX STI.

30 with a 2009 wrx stage 2. Always wanted a "sporty" car and thought it was great when I test drove it, but within a year after buying it brand new i began modding. Had no idea I would go this route with loud exhaust, suspension etc. Love the car, but struggle with whether my next ride will be an STI or something with some luxury and more comfort. Wife has a Ford Fusion sport that is pretty fun to drive and so very comfortable, so have the best of both worlds in the garage when choosing what we go out in. Most of the time I choose the Fusion to keep miles off the wrx and I don't get stared at by all the cops in the area driving it.

I am 33 and seriously considered the wrx. I ended up going with a new premium sport after much debate. Sure I would love to have the much sportier car, but I smile when I feel up the tank and my insurance actually went down from the grand cherokee I used to have.

I did the same thing when I bought my first WRX in 2002, bought the car then told the wife. After driving it for 10 years she told me to go get a new one...so I did. (I'm 54, wife and 2 kids 9 & 5)
