Default What's the solenoid just above the charcoal canister?

There's a hose that Ts off of another hose on my charcoal canister which runs up to a solenoid located just above the charcoal canister. Can anybody tell me what solenoid that is? Looks flat/roundish.

It's actually on a Legacy, but i suspect it's similar on all subarus.

Actually, based on some diagrams i think it might be the Pressure Control Solenoid Valve.. does that sound right?

What purpose does that valve serve? What would happen if the hose that T's off of the "Drain" leading back up to that valve was broken?

your right, it is a solenoid. subaru calls it a vent control solenoid valve. it's purpose is to vent air into the fuel/evap system to keep the system pressurized correctly. if the hose leading from the valve is busted you may not be keeping the correct pressure in the system, normally the valve brings air from the atmosphere into the system to balance the vaccum within, due to the excess fuel vapor being vented elsewhere. usually any problem around there will throw a check engine light.
