Default Tires - wwvd

What would VIC'er's do?

I know it's bad timing and all, but I've waited a year now until my garage was built to put tires on my SSR Comp's. They are 17's. Going to use my stockers to run snow tires this winter (have PZero Neros on them now).

I've done some pricing around and wanted some opinions with people who have run these. I already run summers and snows on my daily driver (Matrix XRS) and want to do this on the WRX (04 - my wife's DD).

Here are the best prices I have found so far for each:

Toyo Proxy T1R $235 installed + taxes
Yokohama S.Drive $226 installed + taxes
Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 $154 installed + taxes

I think the 712's are leftovers, as they are no longer available at Tire Rack.

So from that list, what would you choose? As I stated earlier, this is my wife's DD, so it's not like I'm going to AutoX with. I thought that since I'm going to go with Winters next year, I might as well get good summer tires with the enhanced performance in rain and dry.

I have experience with the Toyos, and find them a bit loud, but not unbearable, on the highway, the wear seems reasonable.

I voted for Yoko>Toyo here as I tried them both...

Kumho is a budget wise, but as for safe DD, I would invest more for a better tires like those you mentioned above...

If its your wife's car and she doesn't care, then I wouldn't spend the extra money for a Summer performance tire.

It's not really extra money as such. I have to get new tires to fit the 17 inch rims, and when the 2nd kid is born, it'll likely become my daily driver (3 months away). Oops I guess I should have mentioned that. The stockers are 16 inchers, or I would have just remounted those on the 17's for now and gotten snows for them over the winter.

well T1R is strictly a summer tire so are RE01R so might as well suggest it since its so cheap.
But i do really like the T1R , its very quite on the road and great in water (cuts through puddles).

The Toyos are a good summer tire for the lowermainland especially when it rains. I put them on my 280Z and the very first wet corner I took, the car tracted awesome, plus they were very stable at 200km/hr!

go for RE01R Gary, i have that on my echo and if you can afford, 048 is a good DD tire (they just wear out too fast, and takes time to warm up), i have that on my civic :P

can't wait to try RE11 hehe, maybe u should get it!

LOL. Baller. A048's on the street. Going to ruin them fast though. Can't stand that many heat cycles.

I vote for Re-01R too...
I did track with those tires on my previous neon.
PS:
I check the tirerack price for my choice 245/45R17, now is 95usd + 30usd roughly shipping per tire + duty + (1.26+ currency rate) = around 17x cdn per tire, and compare to 1010tires, 169.99cdn per tire + (30+shipping), so end up almost no big difference...

Yeah, I did look at tirerack.com, but at today's exchange rates, as others have already stated, there's reduced savings, and then I would still have pick them up, get them mounted separately (local shops charge more if you bring tires in instead of buying from them). By the time I do all that, the savings is just not that big anymore. My other concern with the RE -01R is that they are not that great (especially compared to the T1R and even to the Yokohamas). Since this is for a DD, I'd prefer better rain performance.

Just double checked tirerack and they only have 245's in the 17 inch size, so no RE-01R for me.

I want to see RE11 vs. Z1 SS....but, the Z1 will probably still be cheaper. It's definitely one of the best bargains out there right now for auto-x/track/DD tires

I think it's because they are cheap right now. At that price point, not too many tires can compete.
