Smile 2009: Random Acts Of Kindness Thread

Post up anything you have done to put a smile on a total strangers face
and or vise versa

Today:

My routine stop at the Tim Hortons,
They know me by now as I am one of those regulars who orders the same style coffe and bagel everyday . .

When I get to the window, hand help out with (exact) change, I am told
"The fellow in front of you has already paid for you . . . He say's there are still good people in the world"

Made me stop and think for a second . .
soon resulted in me buying the lady behind me' order

Turns out she was buying for a couple . . . I laughed and sucked it up
made me feel good and put things into perspective

I found out my bf's grandma was diagnosed with cancer and will refuse chemo because she's 91. I've never met or talked to her I sent her a 3 page letter telling her some really funny stories about her grandson (my bf) and some photos of us etc, he never contacts her really ...

Apparently she was over the moon! and keeps my letter on the fridge lol. I feel bad beacause I used an 18 font! haha because she's elderly, but apparently her eyes are fine! haha oops!

All these critter stories remind me of the time my uncle showed me how to play with crows. A little super glue on some White Spot fries, sit back and watch the show. Geez what a character that guy was

Scooby-King. that whole Timmy's thing seems to be quite popular, I've had people buy me stuff and have done the same in return to customers behind me. The GF says she gets this almost once a week. Pay it forward. Makes you all warm and fuzzy.

how do you pay for someones order behind you when you dont know what they are having?

do you just throw the drive through chick a $20 and hope it covers it?
i can see in line offering to pay for the person behind you... but maybe someone can enlighten me to the process

and i never was one for hurting animals, but i did nail grass hoppers to the deck at my grandmas old farm...

Most of the time the person behind you's order is already in the system by the time you go up to pay

I'd venture to say that it's a waste of money and the "charity" dollars could be better spent elsewhere to help those who are actually in need.

^^ Well usually in the morning it's like a few dollars. Couple coffees, breaky sammy etc. I'd hate to pull up and end up paying for some dudes entire office supply of double doubles!!

I'm a guy who believes in going out of your way to do something nice for someone and at least once a day.

I work in a coffee shop in kerrisdale and there's usually an old fellow who begs for money outside my caffe. instead of giving him change, I would make him an extra hot chocolate with lots of whipped cream topped with chocolate drizzle.

there was this other time where I helped a girl change a flat tire - she didn't know how, and she was waiting for a friend to arrive and do it (but we were near ubc and the friend was coming from north burnaby..).
