Default 03 WRX to 05 STI Steering columns

I started with a wrecked 05 STI, swapped everything over (EVERYTHING) and am working on the steering columns since the STI airbag was blown.

1) Cost of a clockspring is $184-255 depending on where you get it.
2) Cruise control and horn setup is completely different.
3) You can't take the guts of the 03 steering column and install them on the 05 column. Subaru has actually changed (for no reason) the width of the mounting bracket so, the 05 and 03 blinker/wiper control unit won't swap over (well, not without drilling).

So,

1) assuming the STI clockspring is still OK (blowing the bag sometimes damages them), I can solder a new connector onto the airbag harness and use my WRX wheel and remove the Cruise control harness, splice in and and make the horn work.

2) I can re-drill the bracket and install the guts of the 03 column onto the 05 column.

Either way the immobilizer parts from the 05 column will continue to function. My goals are, airbag and horn working. Once I find an STI wheel, I can just swap it over and everything will work.

To answer my own questions, I'm swapping the guts over and welding some washers into the bracket to allow the wrx blinker/headlight parts work on the sti column.
