Default Michigan Dealers

I've heard that the Detroit area dealers are friendly, etc., but what about the central area (Ann Arbor, Lansing, etc.)?

Are they hosing people with the prices, or being nice like some other users have posted with minimal amounts over invoice?

I hope to be ordering mine by the end of the month, and would like to not deal with the issues of price gouging, etc...

And by "us" he means Hodges Import Cars. All they sell is Subaru. They are a really great shop. Kevin sold me my WRX.

Whatever you do, don't go to the dealership in Livonia! They are crooked.

Default Your Import Center

I bought mine from Your Import Center in Muskegon. It's about a half hour west of Grand Rapids. Greg Raymond hooked me up. $2000 off sticker. Great service 231-759-8511

Anyone else have any connections/good experiences in Michigan? I'm looking to buy a WRX in the very near future. Thanks in advance.

After checking out the three area dealers, I put my order in at Williams, in Lansing.

Ann Arbor didn't impress me--I was unable to even discuss a "real" price unless I was able to sign that day. Waited around one day to test the WRX (for the first time), and had to wait for a good hour for the car to come back, only to find out it had been back for 30 minutes. And, coffee wasn't offered. But, I was able to take it out w/o a salesperson, so that was neat!

Hodges was a bit farther than I wanted to go, and I sat in the lobby for an hour to meet with someone, only to learn that he had already been there for a good 35 min. Wasn't even offered a cup of coffee, again. I think it was just a mixup in communication--no biggie.

But Rick at Williams took care of me. Showed me the AWD in action (only dealer to do that!), then let me go on an extended drive down the highway with him. Good, sociable guy.

Most importanly, for me, Williams did a great job of returning my emails; if the dealers have people assigned to web responses, they need to be quick. If they meet with you, and are expecting an email, they should be ready to reply, asap. If you pose questions, they should reply, not just discard it (if that's what they do). I can't wrack up phone bills (gotta save for the car, y'know), and I'm not driving an hour to get a question answered, so email is the next best thing.

Thanks for the quick reply Jon. I work in Ann Arbor but live in Stockbridge so I am considering the same dealers you did. I heard Willams wouldn't budge on less than MSRP though. Were you able to get a better deal than MSRP? If so, about how close were you to invoice? Thanks again.

I think most dealers will budge if it means the sale...

In my experience, just giving them that last opportunity to sell themselves, in whatever way they want to, can be a big boost, that way they know that you're not merely going by the lowest price.

There's been a few posts on haggling ettiquite (?), and going a distance away just to save a few bucks, then gettting your service work done at the nearby place isn't going to make anyone happy.

Yes, I was able to get under MSRP, and I was very happy at what I got it to

Does anyone know of a good place to pick up a used scooby? I am looking for a 2.5 RS or just a 2.2 2dr AWD... If anyone has seen any hangin around for sale or know any motivated salesmen/women that will help me find one. I also have a 95 Nissan 4x4 Truck to trade in if that makes it any different? Let me know

Has anyone had any experience with Dwyer & Sons Subaru northwest of Detroit?

They seem to be pretty nice about placing a depoist for the new STi.

Thanks,

Dwyer has been good to me so far. They fixed a squeak and rattle in my car under warranty. David the service advisor is a good guy. He seems to actually care if your car gets fixed right.

Dave is a real nice guy. I have had several Subaru classe's with him as well as ride and drive events. Dwyer is like Hodges only with volvos too!

Hodges does rock. Only place I've taken the Subaru even though it means an 1hour+ drive. The BRAT is cool last 2 times I was there it was gone

The Brat has gone to a better place (Or hell depending on how you look at it) ( Brighton) We retired her for a S-10

The owners son bought the Brat as a first car.

Very shady place that dealership in Livonia. Wouldn't let me even take the Sube for a test drive... said they couldn't let me test drive it cause it was "raining"... ?#*!
Thankfully, that same day... same hour actually... drove to Hodges Subaru and took one for a test drive... it was still raining. Kevin helped me pick all the options I wanted and that same week I placed my order. :-)

Yeah the Livonia dealership is shady. I went there in '03 to look at the wrx's. I approached a salesperson who didn't seem to want to give me the time of day and passed me on to a new sales person who'd been there less then a week. Although i didn't like being passed on like rotten meat, the new salesperson offered me a test drive w/o even asking.

Seems like everyones had a good experience with Hodges. Financially i'm not in a position to get a new car right now. When the situation gets better, i'll make sure to stop by.

I try to avoid East Imports in Grand Rapids at all costs. There are some good people that work there but their salesman look down on anyone that looks under 40.

My Auto in Muskegon have a great service area but the salesmen are a bunch of sharks.

When I was looking at East Imports in Michigan before my move to New Jersey I got the same response. I guess it just doesn't pay to pay attention to a young guy. Their loss I guess. Williams in Lansing wouldn't even talk to me. Being young (23 years old) and it being next to a college town I'm sure they get alot of people just trying to get a test drive, which is understandable.

I've heard that Go (Grand Rapids) is not great either. I would love to have a good place to buy my suby on the west side of the state.

Go changed their name to East Imports. But they still suck. You could try Maple Hill in Kalamazoo. I've never been there.
