Default Guaging Interest and Info: Mastro Subaru and SOA Auto Cross Event

Mastro Subaru and Subaru of America are teaming up in an attempt to host an autocross event for the Southeast Region, preferably in Florida.

If you know of anywhere, like a parking area or event location, this can be held that would be convienent for the Southeast members, please let us know. We are in need of ideas for a location.

Also, we would like to know how many people would be interested in such an event. Date and time are to be announced, obviously, but we are aiming for the middle to end of spring. If everything comes together, it could be alot sooner.

This will be an event sponsored by both Mastro of Tampa and Mastro of Sanford as well as Subaru of America.

I'd like to attend. There's a few motorsports parks, there's the small airfield up in Ocala, the small road course in the orlando area. etc.

I believe they are looking into the autosports park in Orlando. Do you know the name of the one in Ocala?

I also know of Anderson Racing has a 1 mile long road course on their facilities as well. They're in St Pete. I can't seem to find the name to the one in ocala... sorry

Here's a site to some abandoned airfields in FL. http://www.airfields-freeman.com/FL/Airfields_FL.htm Which could lead to potentially promising sites.

Have they contacted the local SCCA region about this? They already have sites for their events.

It was the Buccaneer Region SCCA who held the FL Subaru Dealer Sponsored Subaru Challenge.

I hope this comes together, but it sounds just like another SC. This time SOA wants in agains? Am I missing something? As for locations in Florida, I would agree with digitalseance. Local regions should already be familiar with the best available sites.

Again, I look forward to it.

For central and southern Florida contact the SCCA Central Florida Region: http://cfrsolo2.com/ they hold events in Brooksville, Deland, Sebring, Osceola and Palm Bay currently and may have info on other available sites and the necessary timing and scoring.

I've heard of another type of event SOA was looking into holding, but this is the first I've heard about an owners "auto cross" event.

Yes, SCCA has been contacted, but not by me, so I am not sure of that information.

I think they are looking for someplace a little less "commercial" and more intimate (for lack of a better word). They want it to be a meet/autocross event.

I am not sure of the reasoning behind it, but yes, SOA is getting involved. Things have changed with Subaru, and I am not involved with that end of it.

I may be privi'd to a little more info than you so I'm going to reset spilling all the beans but if the same person who contacted the CFR scca is the same person who contacted our region, then this will NOT be a subaru challenge. However, you will appreciate SOA's involvement dramatically.

If it's what I think it is, I might have to venture down from Jax to participate.

I thought this was a rallycross so I ignored it haha.

If you're contacting SCCA or somebody they should be able to handle everything from setup to location.

I think they just want to get SCCA involved, but the actual planning will be done by SOA and us.

I'm guessing this was what was coming down the pipe when SOA ticked off Challenge Promotions (ie: the Subaru Challenges). Just curious.. it wouldn't have any bearing on my decision to participate or not. I just like to keep up with my gossip while supporting both entities separately.

I'd base my decision on whether or not the venue warrants the 10 hour drive and if SOA decides to hold an event more local to me.

More, solid information will be coming in the next week or two.

If all goes as planned, it will be well worth the drive. I should be able to give out more details in a few days.
