Default Rogue the game (not the mod, not the squadron, not the WoW)

I had completely forgotten about this awesome simply fun time wasting game. Although it doesn't have the visual appeal of Dark Castle (I and II) the replay-ability (new word?) is fantastic.

And there is a version for the idevice! Two I've found at least...an old school OG style one (free) and an improved version (Rogue Touch) that is very similar to the one I played on Mac Plus.

Now if someone would make a Dark Castle game (controls might be tough) and a Colony game (I never did win that) and Load Runner (again...tough controls) my quadfecta of old school Mac Plus games would be complete.

Link to the history of Rogue: http://www.wichman.org/roguehistory.html

I'm sure there are flash and downloadable versions out there.

Lode Runner ftw! Though, I played it mostly on my Commodore 64... I didn't have a Mac Plus...

My mom did have a IIci (IIce maybe?) at one point... Mostly played text games on that one... Zork, Hitchhiker's Guide, etc... Oh, and there was this paper glider game where you flew a paper airplane around a house full of obstacles... that game rocked!

If you search for Rogue, Roguelike, Hack, Net Hack you'll find several examples.

Careful with those last two search terms though!

I played Rogue for so many hours and never beat it. I even downloaded it again recently...and still didn't beat it. What's the deal? Always gettin' smoked by Griffins and the like.

This version has some "cheats" of sorts. If you use certain names for your characters you get special abilities.

Lord of the Rings names seem to work pretty well so far.

The link is fixed now. Check it out. And in all honesty, the Amiga was a pretty resilient machine in its time.
