Default WRX engine to RS swap?

Is it possible to put WRX engine into RS? How easy is that swap and is it easy to get WRX engine? Also if that is possible what other parts needed to be changed and how much will that swap cost with everything?

It is possible and it has been done. I am not qualified to comment on the difficulty of engineering, procurement and construction.
I'm sure ease of procurement is directly proportional to your access to $$$.

I believe i-speed has done a few of these conversions.

I know this has been done... I've not done it though, so I don't really have any details to offer. There have been a bunch of threads on it though. You might want to try searching, especially in the Subaru Conversions forum.

Like these other guys said it can be done.. I have a 99rs with a 2002 wrx engine, tranny, rear, and ecu swapped in. Rallispec.com did the swap. If you are very serios about doing it Id call them. They can get you alll the parts you need to do it.

You will need.

engine, tranny, rear, your rs drive shaft, axles, front cross member from a wrx, or turbo legacy also the sway bar, the exhaust matched up so there will be welding there.

The engine mounts match right up, and you can also get away with useing your Rs tranny (just upgrade the clutch). There is some pain in the arse things like matching the radiator hoses, a/c lines, and whatever else might pop up. Im sure if you ask anyone whos done it they will tell you something else that you'll need to do, or something else small that will need to be done.

sourcing engine should be easy. most of the Vendors on here, and other sites can get them. remember you can use any wrx engine from any year from japan, to the USA models. nippon-motors.com (i think thats the site) has just the engine for $650 belive it or not.. doesnt say year though. you would need ecu, wire harness, and what ever else they rob from the engine though to..sometime they consider the turbo not part of the engine.

i bought a crashed wrx for 6500$ ralli spec did the swap for 2500$
plus little parts id need...you can do it for cheaper trust me.


the hardest part ....the wiring...the swap itself i would personaly took on if it wasnt my only car...the wiring i would of called in the crazy asses willing to do it.

hey i just got done with a 95 jdm swap. Everything is easy untill you try to wire the car. You must know what your doing. I paid 2300.00 for a front clip and my friend wired the car for 400.00, so my swap cost me right around 3200.00 with misc. parts and all.

Question Where to find Motor

Does anyone know where i can find a wrx engine i've been lookin for a while now and havn't found any.Plus i heard that the japan wrx engines couldn't fit the U.s models cause there right hand drive correct me if wrong.

Check the vendor classifieds, the private classifieds, online breaker yards, etc. Motors are out there.

Two places that do conversions that are active on this forum and have done great work for fellow members are I-Speed and Lachute Subaru.

Search around and you'll find what you're looking for.

We hav done quite a few of these types of swaps, parts are always sourced from reliable vehicules and tested before we sell them. Also having access to GENUINE subaru parts brand new helps to complete jobs if odds and ends are missing.

We can hook it up so your 2000 Impreza RS would be sending the OB2 port signals for a 2002 WRX. Any dealer with a Subaru Select moniter will tell you exactly what is happening in you Impreza RS 2000 WRX turbo car !!!

Now What about a 2002 Impreza 2.5RS?? I am looking into buying one of these with a blown motor for $1000. Will I be able to swap an STi or WRX motor and tranny into it??

You could always talk to Garage Tuning, they have done TONS of Subaru swaps and would be able to help you located a motor or whatever you need.

The wiring is the only hard part. Mechanically everything can be bolted together assuming you get all the correct parts.

Use a WRX exhaust and it fits right up.

You can keep the existing tranny, it's not as strong but you can save some money that way and replace it whenever you feel like it. This also saves you from having to fit a different rear diff.

Everything speedy said is correct. The transmission is just fine with an upgraded clutch. You just have to know how to drive. My tranny has over 200k on it. For an sti swap, you would have to swap out more drivetrain parts for strength and it's more labor intensive all around.

Ive got a 2000 RS with 95 ej20g (WRX) swap in it. I made the mistake of going through a company that didnt include much of anything (nippon motors) with motor and tranny so Im about 7 grand deep in this project. If you need an ECU I have 2, Im hoping to get $180 for each. Good luck
