Default Apexi ITC?

i've checked apexi's website and i am not seeing their ITC. do they still make it? i've found a few vendors that have it, but i find it a bit odd that the apexi's website doesn't have it listed. i was just wondering what people use for timing control IF the apexi unit isn't available? thanks!

thats the only piggy back i know of that lets you play with timing for our cars. and no, IIRC, apex-i doesnt make it anymore. personally, im going to be controlling my timing, and everything for that matter with a Link2 ecu.

Sold mine a few weeks ago. I had heard rumors that they stopped making it, but I kept seeing it available everwhere. *shrug*

so it really isn't available anymore? and no one else makes a piggyback timing controller?

what are most of you turbo'd RS's doing then to control your timing? this is really directed to people who DO NOT have standalone control (obviously). at any rate, do chips like the torquechip or proecm provide any benefit along with an S-AFC? thanks again.

looking for another solution...

i think split second makes something to control timing... TMC-1 or something to that effect...

YES to every one...

APEXi no longer supports or produces that product anymore. distributers should have done away with that prodruct about 7 months ago.

Split Sec does make a comperable product but its not as flexible. I think it has like 3-4 points to tune timing.

And there were a few for sale in ther private adds about a week or two ago.

The ProECM timing controller keeps getting new features, so isn't out yet but the prototype works in my car...

Till then I use an ITC I bought off JC Sport's car before they shut down, and I can run 3-4 more psi now!

J&S Ultra SafeGuard. Do a search for the website, I don't recall what it is right now. The one for the WRX is still being tested but the one for th RS has been out for a while, I found a thread in this forum that had very good comments on it, it will automatically pull timing when it detects knock.

Exclamation thanks

everyone-

thanks so much for the input.

larry-does the prototype proecm chip automatically control timing or is it user definable, like the ITC?

kensington-it's my understanding that the new J&S is also automatic with no user controls. i also vaguely remember someone from J&S saying that the new setup isn't ideal for older RS's, like mine. i'm off to work but i'll look into that when i get back. until then, does this sound right to anyone? thanks.

Well, STiTuner and myself just installed my ITC today. So far, its running fine, though I think its a bit slower because of the amount of timing retard I have set (3 degrees through the entire RPM band). My J&S is STILL pulling timing, so I think that it is doing so based on engine noise and not pinging.

Right now, when I start the car, I get a hesitation, and sometimes it just stops in the middle of the engine crank, and starts back up again. The hesitation sounds like a really muffled turnover, and I have no idea why its doing this.

Graham....

the hesitating is wierd actually.

I can advance my timing by like 7 degrees at 800 rpm mark. turn the key to just barely get the car turning over, blip the throttle, and the car will almost die and then start back up again. the closer I leave it to 7 the more it cranks like a normal car. as far as pulling timing the Boxer is a rather loud engine. you can hear my valve train if you listen to my intake. Just remeber though be tankful you have this when you crank up the boost and when summer finally kicks in.

The ProECM is programable.

With ITC I only retard 3 degree at 4,000 or so, and 5 degree the top two knobs from 5,000 up.

Starts fine.

the new J&S V2 does not pull timing unless you are in boost therefore you are not pulling needed timing while cruising when you want full timing advance. It has an onboard 2 bar map sensor to monitor intake pressure and detect boost. You can select how many degrees of timing you want to pull per PSI of boot from 1-4 IIRC up to a total of 20 degrees over 6 PSI range. THis is what i plan to run..

Question MSD?

what about MSD's timing control computer. it appears to be well engineered and made by a reputable company. i think i may look into that. does anyone have any experience with this product? thanks.
