Ricewagon, have you set a date yet? I pm'd loomin about installing the roof vane spoiler at Cosmo Auto, but haven't gotten a response yet. It would be great if I could do everything in one day.

It might not me the same colour as yours as there are different variants to each colour. So unless you don't care, then yeah, a GB is the best bet.

I'm in the same situation as dcgear, just small pieces so doesn't really matter.

Truenosan is right.

There are several problems with doing a group batch..... although it may not look like it... your "identical" wrb cars actually almost certainly are all different. some might be lighter, others darker, some with a redder shade, some might be slightly greener shade.... some might even have a different metallic due to one car having more static built up in it, different air pressures when spraying and even temperature can have an effect. variances between model and year will also happen.

if nobody cares that the colour WILL be off and the paint will most likely not match and it will look like a Maaco job, then i can talk to my boss and see what kind of rates we can do. But if you want to have a paint job that actually matches and doesnt make your care look like its made from lego, then i would recommend against painting parts for 10 different cars with the same batch of paint. I wouldnt feel like ive done the 'right" thing if i said this is a good idea.

each part has to be tinted to match a specific car and its extremely time consuming. we would need every car to be present at the shop during shop hours (mon-fri, 8am-5pm) in order to tint all of the colours. if the colour is off, we cant repaint it to make you happy.

The other problem is that everyone has different parts. some are large some are small some are one piece, some are several... everyone would be paying different prices. complex parts would require alot of time to prep and therefore they would be paying alot more than someone whos only painting spats or vortex generator end caps.

the whole purpose of a group buy is basically to buy alot of one item in order to save on shipping and in some cases dilute the costs of manufacturing.

Another problem is that this will be limited to only as many parts as we can fit in the spray booth in one shot. Big parts like trunks and hoods and COMPLETES (linkseal forget it re: this group buy if you are serious about doing a complete, it will be exempt) they will take up alot of room and jack the price up because we might need to do 2 rounds of painting and twice as much labour which brings me to my next point.....

yet another problem I can see is the fact that even though we are using alot of paint, the paint doesnt get any cheaper. clearcoat still costs about $500 per gallon. and the base colours arent much cheaper. you also have to factor in Labour costs. I personally dont spray the paint. i do repairs, take stuff apart, fix it and put it back together. We have a painter that the shop has to pay as well. If i knew how to paint i might be able to stay after hours and cut the cost of labour down, but if that were the case you may as well just paint it yourself because we would have the same amont of experience holding a spray gun lol.

Ill ask my boss tomorrow what he thinks, but i doubt it would be much of a discount on top of the normal VIC discount we usually give. plus hes gonna give me the whole colour matching lecture and whatnot....

so if you dont care about colour match..... we MIGHT be able to shave the cost down a tiny bit more.

Hey loomin,
from the sounds of it everybody is painting small items ie: roof vane spolier (2 little pieces on the side the middle is black isnt it?) fog light covers, and cyclonus said his is small too. the only big ticket item is the bumper cover ricewagon wants done.
everyone else is just joking about painting a car and alvins trunk which he has not found yet

so maybe get a quote from your boss about those three additions on top of the bumper.

well ricewagons job is an ICBC claim so his parts will be tinted to match his car. they will be painted seperately this thursday or friday too.

little parts arent a problem.... but will there be enough to justify a "group paint"?

Even if the pieces are small, you will notice the difference in colour. Anybody who has seen my bumper will know. I resprayed the bumper, but not the foglight bezels and the grilles. I'm not sure about the untrained eye, but I can really notice the difference.
