Default Legacy 2.5GT driveline into Bugeye WRX...

Here's the deal: I have an 02 WRX with the 2.0 with about 70k on it and the tranny has started the dreaded grind again (assuming 1st is chipped). I just acquired a 05 Legacy GT turbo with light body damaged. Since my trans is out, so I am considering doing the entire driveline swap. What's everybody's thoughts? The current driveline setup on my WRX is posted below (may have forgot something here or there).

02 WRX
IHI VF22 at 17psi (waiting on sprayer)
Underdrives
Excedey lw Fly
Clutch Masters
Borla Header
GS Uppipe
Megan 3" back
Walbro w/ pinks
Turbonetics TMIC
Samcos
Unichip (oldschool)
Ra Gearset with busted first (reason for buying GT)
335ish hp

05 GT
Stock with 45k on the odom

Can I swap drive line (minus d/s, axles, etc of course) and put my harness and upgrades over on the GT engine? (basically doing it Honda-style ) I assume there will be further tuning needed and probably bigger injectors (not sure here). I want to put the sprayer on and up the boost to about 20 or 21psi while I am at it.

I definitely wanted the 4.44 final drive, but figured hey, I can sell my engine and cover what I have in the car (I own a salvage yard), so why not do the engine too!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

Anybody able to give any 2.5 advice? I know the 2.0 pretty well, but I do not know what will and will not swap...

just swap the shortblock, everything else is different and will require wire merging

I dont think 2.0 head on 2.5 engine is a good idea. The cumbustion chamber on the head is to small for the cylinder and it will raise compression or not seal right. I am not sure though but when I was doing my motor is was rec'ed
not to use the 2.0 heads.

are the intake bolt patterns the same? If they are you could swap long blocks, and reuse your 2.0 intake. This would prevent wiring delimas.

yes swap the short block merging the wiring with the 05 lgt is nearly impossible due to the immobilizer

its been done a lot ... thousands and thousands of times in the last 5 years ..

Jaxx... You say swap my heads over on the 2.5 block and rot assy and all accessories - correct? Any reason not to keep the 2.5 heads and just swap intake/injection. Either way I go, with a re-tune of my uni (or purchase of another e-mgt), will the pinks keep enough flow for the bigger engine and turbo?

Thanks for the input to everyone!

wrong wrong wrong.

it raises compression yes, to like 9.0:1 MAYBE.

It's been done so many times it's retarded. There is nothing wrong with putting 2.0 heads on a 2.5 block, oh wait, I have it on mine.

DK Scoob... What year is your car? What year block did you go with? what head gasket did you use when putting it together? What turob/boost are you running? Did you change injectors? (basically, do you have a link to your buildup?)

Just wanting to have everything together before I start this project!

I will just type it out.

I have a 2000 RS that had a 2004 WRX swap.

I decided to tear it down, and rebuild it one weekend, so I ordered a EJ257 block from my local dealership (they are all identical in shortblocks, the ej255 and ej257). I used the stock ej257 headgasket, you could go with a cometic.

I used a 16g, stock tmic, STi pink injectors, and I put down 260/290 on 14lbs of boost (thanks doug@topspeed)

I stated I wasnt sure. When I did my 2.2L build I was told to stay away from the 2.0 heads because of this reason, so I went with 2.5NA DOHC heads (which do have much bigger ports anyways).
Thanks for clearing that up!

When Grossman tuned my Unichip with my VF22 at 17psi and my Turbonetics TMIC, mine was approx 330 at the flywheel. I cant remember my whp, somewhere around 250-260 I think (need to find my dyno sheets again).

Do you know if my 2.0 intake will bolt up to the 2.5 head if I decide to go that way? If not, what non drive-by-wire intake/tb would be good to replace the plastic intake on the 2.5 (and use my pink injectors)? I may swap heads, but I was figuring on selling my 2.0 to make some of my money back if possible.

most likely yes... but... you won't be able to control the AVCS with out doing wiring.. so you might as well use the 2.0 heads.

Now here is my quandry... everyone is saying to use my 2.0 heads because of the ACVS kicking the timing up all the time with no control from the WRX ecu... In essence, ACVS is not much different from Honda's Vtec. Why can't we adapt a Vtec controller to control the cams? All we need is to flip the switch at approx 3-4k. Right?
