Default 06 07 wrx TR tranmission

ok I know this has been brought up alot of times but Im tired of hearing 2 sides of everything. I used to own a 02 wrx and sold it because didnt want the tranny to go out so I got a 2007 wrx tr 2 years ago im putting good power down with my settup now and ive been told 330hp is to much for the stock tranny. I have been trying to sell it for a sti but now im being told there is alot of guys on here pushing well over 400hp on the stock trannys. IS THIS TRUE are the 07 trannys holding and not breaking as much. I just want to know the truth because I dont want to take this loss in money trading my car in on a sti. I just want to stay around 400hp and call it done. Please any feed back will be great.... ALso I have a few friends that are wanting to know they have the same setup I do and are scared also.

i have had 350whp on my 06 for 12kmiles, no problems stock clutch is starting to slip at 48k. I am saving for an sti trans though, because i would like to sell my 5 speed in one peice to offset the cost of the swap

You never know how the cars that failed were driven. Who is actually going to admit they messed up or are horrible at driving a manual? I personally wouldn't, nor would I bitch about it on the forums if I knew I had messed up. First scapegoat seems to be the transmission. Sure the OEM 5 speed has it's limits but i've heard of people shattering third in stock configuration. others have clamied to run FP greens with no failures. My VF-39 has been in my closet for a year now b/c of these failure stories and i'm a tech at a subaru dealership. Within that year i've noticed i've never heard the rear end thud from shifting too hard, nor do I remember any major driveline shock to date. I don't launch much at all. of the 2-3 times I have, i never reved it more than 3-4K and never dumping it and always letting the clutch out upon the upper sweep of the tach. As soon as I decide on a downpipe and EM, that VF39 is going on. Worst case, i'll take a worn clutch any day compared to a broken gearset.

06/07= higher final drive. Higher final drive = more tranny stress. 06/07 typically like to shatter 3rd gear.

If you have a doubt, don't buy it unless you drive your car like a Kia Sephia. NO ONE can state what a tranny will hold so you best look for a 6MT car or one with a built tranny first if you have fears.

I've had my VF43 with 339ftlb of torque on the stock tranny for a year now 14k miles with no issues. I've takin to the drag strip a couple of times as well. My advice would be save the money you think you would be losing to get the STI and start saving for a trans just incase yours breaks. Why worry about it until its an issue. When it breaks then replace it. Until then just drive it like you want.

3rd gears is the one that breaks you can still launch, 1st and 2nd are fairly strong. My car puts down 285whp with a VF39 and E85 but its faster than most cars with 20G and I have 18x9.5 wheels . I kill my stock clutch at 36k miles .

It seems a lot of failures occur during "regular driving", so the stress from launching it can be cumulative, even if it does not break WHEN you are beating on it.

If you cannot afford to replace it, then do not beat on it or add excessive WHQ/WHP
