Default 97 legacy transmission into a 96 impreza

Ive got a 96 impreza auto awd im doing 5spd conversion on. The transmission came out of a 97 legacy 2.5 gt, 4.111 gearing.

The pedals, clutch master, and shifter all bolted right up, but I dont have the transmission mounts or transmission crossmember from teh legacy. Can I use the original impreza auto crossmember? I assume the transmission is the same between impreza and legacy, and impreza 5spd transmission mounts will bolt up to it, but will they work with an impreza auto transmission crossmember? or do i need to find an impreza 5spd tranny crossmember?

I'm waiting on this too.

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing.

well after putting the transmission in, i discovered auto and manual transmission crossmembers are in different spots on the car.. and my auto impreza does not even have the mounting brackets for the manual crossmember installed. I will have to fab something to be able to bolt the manual crossmember to the car. not as easy as I was expecting

There SHOULD be rubber covers in the spots where the the manual crossmember bolts onto the chassis. You should be able to pull those off. I could be wrong.. but check.

When I did my M/T swap I thought that as well. All you need to do is pull the little grommets out of the car (right next to nearmost lower control arm bushing).

Then get yourself a M/T tranny crossmember, a wrx one will work. I suggest getting all the bolts in, then tighening them down. Make sure you use the rear diff that matches your tranny, unless you have looked it up already and know FOR SURE that it is the correct ratio. The legacy drivshaft wont work, it's too long. You need one from a M/T car. They can be found regularly at junkyards.
