Default Public Service Announcement: Sportscar-itus

I would like to give out this Public Service Announcement to the fine people here at the SWIC. I would like to give some advice to maybe help some people from getting pulled over.

I receive several PMs about people on here who get themselves into trouble via traffic offenses with Johnny Law. The problem is usually that the driver attracted the attention of an officer from driving that we think is OK but the officer does not. Our cars can safely handle certain driving situations that non car people think to be dangerous. After a while, drivers of these types of cars tend to forget that. I call this Sportscar-itus.

Remember, most people out there drive normal slow, bad handling commuter cars. Also remember that most LEOs are those same normal people. They judge your driving to be prudent, reasonable and safe compared to their Toyota Camry or Dodge Ram.

For example... One person on here relayed their ticket experience as follows. They made a left hand turn at an intersection at approximately 25-30 mph and then slightly "boosted" after the turn. This was all done in front of an officer.

Now lets see whats wrong with that.

First the turn: a 30 mph turn in a slightly modded wrx/sti is no problem. Even less so with some good coil overs and suspension mods. But, would the same turn be safe in a full size pickup or a minivan???

Second the "boosting". our cars accelerate very fast. going around a corner and quickly getting up to 50 or 60 is very very easy, but how does that look to everyone else? Plus your gonna have a big uphill climb to try to convince your average officer that you werent speeding when you "slightly boost" a 20g turbo.

So remember, most Police Officers are judging your driving compared to a normal passenger car. Most cops are not car guys and think of our cars the same as riced out Hondas.

Thank you for your time.

Chase

This thread makes me laugh.

It's funny, I've burned the tires in my small blocked S-10 in front of a cop and came around a left turn and went WOT for a few gears in the subie, both times they just flashed their spot light at me.

<--been pulled over a LOT. Perfect record.

its like the conversation we had chase.... most people that drive like douches usually drive that kia or hyundai of some sort, missing a bumper or gas door bent backwards. They seem to think that in order for them to look/be cool they must get from point A to point B in the fastest manner. Whats really funny is that with all their douchesness driving tactics (weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating), i usually end up right behind them while driving like a grandpa.

You know what cars im talking about.. theyre usually the ones with the big F sticker on the back (lets you know that their in the "F"aggins gang).

Me i like quite cars, that way the pigs dont even bother looking up and can continue eating their donuts and jacking each other off.
