Default Dented Hood

So, it looks like somebody was nice enough to back into the hood of my WRX and put a dent in it. The paint is slightly scratched, but I think it can be buffed/polished out. The problem is the dent. Are there any issues with removing dents from aluminum. It's more brittle than steel, but I'm hoping they can just "pop" the dent out.

Anybody have any experience with this?

I had a dent removed from my hood at the last Got Dents event. It doesn't pop out as easily as sheet metal, so there will be some trace of the dent. The Dent Wizard guy did a good job though, and the blemish can only be seen if you look really close. Note that my dent was small...I accidentally dropped a small IKEA desk lamp on my hood. If your dent is big, you may have a harder time.

Have you checked with body shops? There's one that I have been very satisfied with:

maybe they can do it well for a good price.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to ask the paintless dent repair guys if they think it can be repaired, otherwise insurance might be buying me a new hood.

Ahh! Matt! That's wretched. Well, I've avenged you in spirit: I recently caught one of these vandals attempting to drive away from a large scrape on the side of a new SUV (come to think of it; I probably shouldn't have said anything... it was a Lexus RX300, blah). Anyway, got his plate and left a note...

You know, I drew up plans a while ago for a 4-camera multiplexed video recording system that could be activated via the alarm or motion sensors. It's basically a 12 volt VHS recorder, four of those miniscule perv-cams that are constantly advertised in pop-ups, and a little 4-into-1 video multiplexer. I was pretty convinced at the time that it'd be relatively cheap while retaining the resolution to capture stuff like license plates and faces... maybe I'll dig up the research again. Wouldn't it be sweet to be able to send a bill to these creeps?

One of my co-workers saw a BMW sideswipe a parked car in front of our office, and then take off. He got the license number, and left a note with the license number and a description of the car. Hopefully the person who got hit will be able to catch the BMW driver.

I like the 4 camera idea. Perhaps it could be integrated with the "car flame thrower" they have in South Africa. If anybody approaches the car, they get a little toasty.

Seriously though, it's just a dent. I'll get it fixed eventually.
