Default Wanna install a WRX muffler on my GC8

I have a 1999 RS and I want to take out the stock muffler, install a used dualtip WRX muffler and a new aftermarket midpipe, possibly a Stromung. Does anyone know if this will lead to any noticable performance gains or just look pretty and make more noise?

Ed

WRX muffler will not give you any HP benifits (Its the same width pipe I believe) and wont sound any better.

actually i think the pipe diameter of the wrx exhaust is almost 2.5". not sure if you would gain anything or not.

Ed- the WRX muffler section pipe size in 2.25", the Turbo back starts at 2.50 and tapers to 2.25 back at the muffler...you'll see prolly pretty decent gains over the stock 1 7/8" exhaust(PUNY!!!) If you need a muffler section i have one that's got 3 miles on it. $50 and it's yours...no dings or anything, i am just looking at going a different route now. Seen ya next weekend.

Sounds sweet.

Nice little whistle sounds down low when rev's drop too, sounds kinda like anti-lag.

I did it, and am thrilled.

it definitely makes a kick ass whistling kinda noise an RS...i wonder if it's the lack of the extra resonator that makes it do that

Stock WRXs make that sound too.

You will notice a slight gain.. Not much. Just make sure that you get rid of any exhaust leaks.

You will need to cut and replace the flange and cut the third hanger and relocate it.

The WRX flange has its holes wider spaced than the Stromung midpipe. But you can widen/slot the holes in the Stromung pipe no problem. But, the WRX is still about 10 degrees turned in the wrong direction to bolt up (so you still have to cut and weld)

Here are some pics for you to browse.

I've never heard it...

I'm not doubting you, I just think it's way more noticeable on an RS.

totally agree w/ ya...the WRX makes it but i think most of them it's because they have the stock midpipe with the resonator in it. Most of the RS's have the aftermarket non resonated midpipe.

I did it! I love it. Almost no performance gains as far as I can tell, but I love the way it looks and it sounds a little more mean.

I'm not sure about the performance aspect, but hell, for the 150 I spent on a brand new one including installation, I figured, couldnt go wrong.

i have a full exhaust with custom headers and catback. i had a flowmaster and a magnaflow chambered muffler on it and nothing could get it quiet except te wrx muffler, you lose a lot of volume but its fine. I have a highflow cat, and wrx midpipe with resonator and wrx muffler.

I got mine for free from a friend and paid the Muffler Man 40 to put a new flange on it.

I also installed it on my car before I brought it to the muffler man, so that might have cut down on labor.
