Default More about the S4 and WRX

Different cars, entirely.

One thing I've always thought funny was how people forget that both cars, from factory, are designed to accomplish VERY different things concerning their race potential.

S4 - GT car

WRX - WRC car

The S4 is in the same category as the Acura NSX, Porsche 911, Corvette Z06, Mustang Cobra, Saleen SR, and the list goes on and on.

The WRX is in the same category as the Ford Focus RS, Lancer Evo 6/7, Citroen Xsara T4, Peugot 206, and the list goes on and on.

By the way, for the guy who posted the videos of a Corvette Z06, Mustang, and S4. It's really too bad we don't have a video from Sebring's recent events.

http://www.champion-motors.com/racin...fm?c=sr&tn=123

(I'm being a smartass. That S4 is nothing like a factory S4. The Z06 will destroy just about anything you can buy off the showroom floor, regardless of manufacturer.)

My point is that the WRX has roots in rally driving, while the S4 is a GT car.

Say what you want to about the S4, but don't call it a GT car. A true GT car is a car with 2 doors, that is either AWD or RWD.

Audi has had it's roots from WRC, remember they won the title 4 years in a row, with a women driver. Audi would still be in WRC if Quattro wasn't outlawed from competition.

My mistake, they should kick Audi from Sebring Speed GT competitions for having 4 doors!

Ben, how could you miss that one? Audi even has a commercial about their first woman driven rally car.

Sebring Speed comps are apart of ALMS, which is an open manufacturers race. As long as the car is a production car, it may run in any of the GT categories. If it is a proto it has to run in the proto class. (Audi R8)

Anymore Sparky?

Sure they were designed differently, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be compared.

Heck, the S4 is inherently different from those other cars you mentioned in its class. The Corvette, 911, NSX, etc, etc were all designed to be sports cars from the very beginning(true GT cars like scott was talking about). The S4 however is based off the A4 which was just designed to be a medium size luxury sedan.

My point, just because vehicles were designed for different purposes, doesn't mean their performance(or any other aspect) shouldn't be compared if they produce similar numbers.

I guess I should clarify what I meant, because I think I'll agree with Scott as well.

I was talking specifically about Sebring GT when I mentioned what was being done with S4s concerning race potential. I wasn't using the generic label "GT", which does imply something very different (M3, Corvette, etc.) My mistake.

I was also talking specifically about the WRX having a rally history.

Winslow, I was NOT talking about the manufacturers' history!

I didn't say Audi and Subaru. I mentioned two very specific models, that's all.

What is my bigger point at large?

I guess I think turning either the S4 OR the WRX into f_ _ king drag racing cars just makes me laugh!

What's so funny about that? I've seen some crazier **** then an S4 drag racing. How about a Oldsmobile 442 w/ a Rolls Royce 3000+ ci V16 from a WWII P-51 Mustang? He couldn't get the slicks to hook till mid-track.

Drag cars? I thought going to the track was to measure how fast your car could accelerate from a stop to 1320 feet? Guess I'm wierd...

Different strokes for different folks!

Fast & Furious...otherwise known as Food, Folks & Fun!

Sheesh!

Knock yourselves out. Believe me, on this issue, I know I'll be outnumbered by drag racing fans.

R-RATED, I didn't buy my car to drag race. So feel free to smoke me too.

I honestly think drag racing is for sufferers of Small C*ock Syndrome. Or kiddies. When I was 16, I drove a Duster with a 318 and sure I thought that was fun as all hell. My tastes changed, that's all. I still appreciate muscle cars. At least Scott drives a f_ _ king Camaro (drag car), not a REX or S4.

Okay, go ahead, beat me down....I'm ready for it!

OUCH..... Okay I'm sorry!....

Yeh dude, I wont flame you just because. But I will put my 2 cents in about drag racing. **** I mean my Jetta is no where near a drag car. But that is what I do with it, I dont rally, I dont AutoX (maybe some day, lol). When you see my car, it is stock, everything about the apperance is stock, and more then likley will stay that way. Everything I have bought for my car and everything I will be buying is performance only. Because I LIKE to drag race. I dont just street race, I go out to the Drag Strip and race out there too, maybe even one day actully get good at it (HA). I just take offence to what you say about people who drag race. I mean **** I do actully work at it, I am up at least 3 times a week at 2am practicing my launches (Talk to R-Rated about that, he saw me drag when I first got the car, hahhaha). But regardless, its all good.

No flames frome me. I'll bite my tongue and play nice.

Dude its all good. I wasnt really pissed, just like "damn". And **** man, my car takes more then a certain skill to launch. I really need to dyno my car, but based on other people with the same chip and other mods, they dyno with abut 225 (give or take 5) tq to the wheels. That is quite a bit of torque. I need to get a LSD, lol.

I must have misunderstood this statment.

Are you feeling the love? Everybody give Ben some love.

Drag racing the WRX is odd but it has the performance to do it. I don't plan on dragging my car on a regular basis but I will take it out to the track to see what it can do.

If I had the cash I would have bought an S4.

Ben,

I love racing on an open road course, not a parking lot with cones.

My car doesn't have the prowess that it needs on a tight corners course, plus I would never be able to open my car up. Now, if you all want to go out to Tok for some fun, I'm game.

BTW, I was just giving you some ****, it's my job as the offical Dumbestic Troll of AKIC.

What the hell is this? I thought I just replied to some thread with the same topic a just a minute ago. Let me say this again. WRX vs S-4 is like saying Grand Am Vs. Mustang GT. Bring on something similar like Camaro Z-28 Vs. Mustang GT. Kinda like Subaru Sti vs. Audi S-4. I know someone is gonna nitpick the z-28 vs. rustang GT thing so let me explain that this is just an example.

Why didn't we think of that a million posts ago? Thanks Eric. STi vs. S4 is a better comparison.

Nah, I still say the WRX and S4 make a better comparison. The S4 has a little more power, but also more weight. So acceleration is very close between the stock S4 and WRX with a slight edge to the S4(given equal drivers). The WRX however wins in the handling department. So they make a good comparison.

The STI on the other hand has more power than the S4 and less weight. It would be a slaughter in every performance category.

Luxury wise, the S4 is in a higher league. So neither the WRX or STI should be compared on those grounds.

I agree, Eby.

I think S4 vs. M3 is always the fair comparison.

The previous gen M3 and the previous gen S4 are good comparisons. Afterall, just because they brought the S4 over to the U.S. so late doesn't mean that it's a "new model". So E46 versus 2000-2002 S4 is not quite fair. I'd wait for Audi's next iteration. Then we'll see who wins the German bullet contest.

The next gen S4 and the E46 M3 will also make for a good comparison.

As for the S4 and WRX, on the streets they can be pretty comparable but mod for mod, I wouldn't street race the S4. However, take the WRX off road, and kiss the S4 goodbye.

...as Scott would say, that's my $.09319574637585!

I'd of been all over an S4 if A) I had the money and B) if a used one was available at the time I bought my WRX. I'm sorry, but I'll take the *built like a tank* assembly and luxury build quality of the S4 ANY DAY. It's european, it's gorgeous, its only waiting to be unleashed.

It's an Audi. 'Nuff said, with twin turbos and a six. Very EASY to make over 400hp and a very gorgeous car. Sure, if all you want to do is go fast and drive like a porsche, a WRX is great. If you want a little bit of that extra something (ala Ronin) than you can't beat a german sports sedan.

The new S4 is rumored to make over 350hp, along with a 4.2 V8 option. We're talking S8 power in a WRX sized car. AWESOME.
