Default SOHC engine rattle

I did a quick search and didn't catch anything that was spot on, so here goes.

I just noticed recently that my 2000 RS is making some odd noises.

around 4K in neutral the engine develops a knocking rattle on the drivers side bank.

admittidly, I am overdue for an oil change, will be doing that tomorrow.

anyone have any off the top of your head kinda answers?

it's a 2000 with about 60K miles on it.. could it be the timing belt?

I was about to say I have the same thing, but on second thought I think my strange noise may be different.

I get what I can only assume is valve noise from the driver's side when idling. The dealership didn't seem to think it was a problem though. :\

Try checking if it sounds like it's coming from the tranny. Could be a messed up pilot bearing if it's in neutral. I had a rattling problem at neutral too and it would start whirring at 2K. Had it replaced later on and it was gone. I don't think the timing belt's the problem though. Joe

like a lame ass, I added oil and the noise got better.

guess my car ate a little more oil than I anticipated.

right after posting this, I was driving to get oil.. and the oil light flashed for a brief moment.

it was actually doing it in all gears.. not only in neutral.

so, I think I just need to get my crap together and do an oil change.

stop being lazy
