Default Broken cam gear

i got about 30 miles on my new motor before the left hand intake cam gear decided to bite the bullet.

It stopped running immediately and I did not try to restart it.

I know it is possible i may have bent valves, but how likely is the damage?

my buddy had one of the acvs cam gears let go on him, and we threw on some new ones, set the timing and it ran fine. It's really luck of the draw, i would say throw a new cam gear on, put the belt back on and try it out.

Is there anywhere I can get billet cam gears?
These plastic ones don't seem like they're worth a damn.

I had a drivers side intake cam break in half and it didn't bend any valves.

Lol I'm messin' with ya Eric. I still haven't gotten the passenger side head off yet because I can't get the damn cam gear off. I'm afraid of breakin' it too - I don't want to spend more money than I need to.

Still can't believe after only 30 miles? How did it exactly happen? I was talking with some guy the other day that spun a bearing sitting in traffic

I would love to know. Ya gotta figure, a broken cam or cam gear is not going to open the valve any more, so as long as something does not jam open, the valves are going to close immediately due to spring pressure.

That is a good point, i guess bending valves is more of an improperly installed timing belt or it skipping.
