Default WTB:Newbie wants a Soobie 09/08 STi

Hi. Im Gary and extremely new to this bulletin board thing (Wow, some posts are Greek to me. Is there a glossary somewhere?). Anyhow, I am looking to find a used STi. My wish list: 1) 09 STi 2) 08 Sti 3) 09 WRX265 4) 09 WRX. Any advice on what people have paid would be appreciated. I know Im hoping rather high, but I am patient. My ride at the present time is a 1993 Dodge Colt...how sad is that? Again I apologize for any and all goofs I make.

I'm sorry, but you say you have a 93 Colt, but your profile says you have a Miata.

for the 09 vehicles, check out the local dealerships and see what they have kicking around.

Busted. But the Miata is under cover and the Colt is what I have to drive in the winter. I think I could improve on that.

not too many people selling their 08/09. everybody seems to love them. check the states out too. exchange rates suck but their pricing is WAY better .

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/1081327461.html

but then you can get brand new 09 STI base for the same money
(less Navi, less BBS wheels...)

Thanks for the heads up yokomo. I actually went to see the car, all the way out to Mission, not Vancouver. It was dirty and the dog has spent lots of time in the back. Questions:
1. Any opinions on a "clear bra" I've never seen them before?
2. Does seem like a high price for a high mileage, not clean car. Any suggestions on offers?

There was a guy on Western Subaru Club that managed to get a brand new WRX 265 for $28,000 some odd dollars from a dealer........ they have a crazy lease rate on them over 24 months with payments under $400 including taxes too........

For that kind of money I would go with a brand new 09 STI base model.
You can get at least $1500 off MSRP which makes it $38500 (of course, plus applicable fees and taxes).

Sure, the 09 base model doesn't come with Navi or BBS wheel, but also doesn't
come with 32000km and dog hairs !

If you want more discount on 09, I can help to hook you up with my friend at local Subaru and we can split the referral fee

Thanks to all for the STi buying advice.

I never thought this would turn in to the dog hair removal thread.

I was hoping for input from people who have bought used cars and what they paid relative to asking price...new car buyers and what they paid relative to MSRP. I have bought so few cars I don't really know what I'm doing...Whoops...did I say that or just think it?

This could be a big thread if you are talking about buying used cars in general.
Or any STi say from 04-09.

However, if you specifically are looking for buying 08 (used) and 09 (new), then the answer is relatively simple...

The 08 models had MSRP $45K. The 09 model, with the available "base" model (no Navi, no BBS), comes with MSRP $40K.

The $5K differential makes any used 08 a difficult sale (for example, the
one you saw in Mission), unless the STi owner is willing to take a huge
deppreciation say $10K which I doubt you will find

Unless you absolutely dig the factory BBS wheels (most STi owners put on
(better) aftermarket wheels anyway), and the factory Navi (not the best in the market), going with the new 09 Base seems to make a lot more sense to me.

^ 09 base sounds like the best deal.

The only people that REEEEALY want the 09 BBS are us 05-07 guys hehe.

Sorry about any ambiguity on my part. It's that newbie thing.

I'm primarily interested in an 08/09 STi at this time. But I might consider a WRX265 instead...Yeah I know this is wishful thinking, but what is life without dreams?

What is the price range you would let her go for? Just wondering because I just bought a 09 Base, but in the past while was looking for an used
08. I couldn't find any good 08 deals both sides of the borders back then.
Maybe this is more appropriate as a PM question...

HRCboy: My price range: 0 to infinity. I'm ready to pay a fair price for a quality product. Please no major accidents. When you are ready to sell let me know and we can work something out.
