Default Power Over Time & Airboy Dyno vs EQ Dyno

Well, i won an Injen Catback back at the ESX / Santa Monica Subaru grand opening and i finally picked it up and put it on. I had Injen's old catback but they changed the design a little bit and made it quieter....and since i just got a ticket for my exhaust i decided to put on the new unit.

Just put it on this morning, then logged about 30 minutes ago.

I was a logging/flashing fiend for over a year, then in december i just stopped and havent flashed my sti since....so i was pretty curious to see how my tune held up over time. So here's the log and some plots.

I also sent the log to Ed (Vaus - EQ Tuning) so he could make a plot in his software as i've always been curious how they compare.

I was pretty happy with the AFR Learnings....and overall. Some FLKC but nothing major. I was quite surprised.

A = -5%
B = 0.9%
C = 1.4%
D = 0.4%

2006 STi

Mods: FP Green + all supporting mods.

Fuel: Shell 91 oct + ~50/50 meth/water

Dyno. The lower numbers were my 16g.

Boost, timing, load. Boost is 2 psi low. Wondering if the exhaust did that. Didnt log the AFR, but it was 12:1 tapering to 11.5:1

My old sub recently ripped itself apart after about 5-7 years of use....so i had to put this one in...

Nice data as usual, thanks for sharing, noticed the loads around the knock events (all be them slight) are you usally pushing load >3.5?

I am in the flash,flash ,flash mode, tweak flash, how do I shake the habit??? lol

Its nice to see the rom over time, I recently pulled my learning view and took fresh logs after being away for a month and Wife driving it solely, nice to see all in order, I have flashed 4 times today to try to smooth my S/S# boost curves out, dont know why Im so picky, EWG goes on nect week. :-)

hmm....i wasnt aware that it was low? 16* up to 21*.....i mean i can run 22-23* at redline AT MOST on meth....but it knocks every now and then if i do that so i just took it down a bit.

As for the 16* at peak....i can run more, but didnt really see any gains from it.

From most of the logs i've seen 21-23* at redline is "the norm" although i have seen 1 or 2 up at 26*.

Not criticizing just curious...

If its a 2.0 and your running a healthy meth mix - from what I've experienced) you should continue to make power up to about 19-20* at peak torque and 26-30* at redline...

If its a 257 then thats alot of timing... I know different engines - different tastes - but I was curious.

I bet it pulls like crazy can't imagine 425tq....

I really enjoy seeing other's timing curve... Seeing as its the hardest part of tuning any engine - I look and learn from others - mistakes or fortunes..

From what I've gathered your running quite a bit through peak torque and spot on at redline... Either way - and no matter - I want a torque curve like that...

To top if off a good enough tune that you felt comfortable walking away from for a long period of time and drive it with no problems...

I like seeing these threads.

i was planning on lowering it down to 14*.....i've been told by a couple tuners that its too high and im probably passed MBT already.

its just a little hard trying to find MBT on the road dyno software

i was trying to gnats ass everything before.....upping the timing by 0.35 at a time maxing it out everywhere making really painstaking timing maps, but i just got sick of it and made a simple one and decided i was done.

I keep making torque until around 20* (0'd timing and fuel comp) and keep making it with a smooth transition up to around 28* at redline...

But ^^^ 205 with E85 - E requires a bit more for volume...

I don't know alot about 257's but I know avcs has a huge impact on VE especially in the midrange...

that's a little extreme in my experience. the 2.0L is more volumetrically efficient and with its smaller bore size, doesn't need as much advance as the 2.5L STI for the flame front to complete its burn at the proper time.

Phatron your timing values look identical to the map(s) I have tuned on similar cars here. 1200 ft ASL and 91 octane. Dyno numbers nearly identical, too.

Ron,

I'm glad to here that the car still running strong. I'm runnig about 13* in my car at peak torque and 21 to 23 up top. I'm still running the rom you modified for me and the car is running strong. I run 13* with 93 octane and 24psi and you have 91 plus meth so i think that 14* will be safe since that will be like running 95 octane. Try running 14* and see if the car makes the same power. If it does i will stick with 14* for safety.

I sent Ed a PM about a comparison a while ago and never got a resopnse. Hopefully he can chime in here because I am really curious to see how Airboys sheet stacks up.

I have mine pro-tuned running 21-22 degrees at pk trq rising to 34-35 degrees at 6K. this is with a 55/45 meth-h20 mix at 11.5-7 AFR at peak trque richening to 11.0 at redline per my LC-1 logs. I am using the "medium" AEM nozzle, which is about a 320cc nozzle. With the small nozzle and a 48/52 mix I could only hold about 14degrees rising to 26.

I do not see FBKC or FLKC at all, totally clean datalogs. But... I am only running 15.5 lbs of boost on a td04/ej255 setup in a 2004 FXT.

My relevant mods on this simple set-up include the following work I have done in my garage over the past year or so:

Stock turbo and intercooler
COBB turbo back
AP v2.0 (pro-tuned stg 2+)
prodrive y-pipe
pnp STI manifolds
grimmspeed x-pipe
decatted STI up-pipe
grimmspeed TGV deletes
Perrin inlet
grimmspeed phenolic spacers
AEM meth kit (normally closed relay/failsafe on BCS)
LC1 WB02 setup
chrome valve stem covers

Phatron your afr learning is about perfect, .35 flkc over time when your running 425 ft lb is nothing to worry about, that tune looks solid...I can't wait to get tuning this spring just finished the downpipe on my custom gt3076 .82 with v-band downpipe(ran out of welding gas still need some 02 bungs).... Reading this now I've got the itch to tune it...but... my damn 5mt is broken just getting ready to get my 07 6mt....

sounds like a sweet build. you'll probably like the 6 speed better for the 3076 anyway. the shorter gearing favors bigger turbos. or at least it made my wrx feel way faster around town.....although its probably a tick slower in the quarter mile.

in all honesty i was in awe at that log, especially the AFR learnings. I guess i nailed it down pretty good....i mean it only took me about 600 logs. Its been about 5,000 miles since i tuned it....been through a couple trips down to sea level and back up to 2700 ft, different gas stations, etc.

Yeah Its got a 2.25 Inner diameter up pipe too.. I work at Industrial stainless supply, so I know a couple fabricators and such, I might have them start making more of these t3 piping kits for cheap...
I would have been in awe too thats been through alot...It takes some time to get a good SOLID tune...

Did you get a dyno back from Ed @ EQ? Which dyno is the on in your OP?

Good numbers, and looks like a great tune, regardless.
