Post Why so many haters?

I have been prone to running into crowds of people who hate me and my car. I dont get it. It may be a bit ricey looking but it aint that bad. Some people I just dont understand. I was in KC recently and had some dude in a Pathfinder and yell "F@#% YOU!!!" just because I looked ricey. Tonight I was going to get food and some people were making fun of my car and exhaust making farting sounds at me and stuff. On my way back another group started yelling "RICE BURNER!" at me. Sure, they may have been drunk frat wankers but why the hating? For every 1 person that stops me and says how much they like my car I have a dozen people who think its a riced out Honduh or something. Sad thing is I would smoke about 90% of these people yelling at me and look sexier than any of them. Dont hate the playa. Hate the game.

You are in a town that fields a perennial division 2 NCAA football powerhouse...

Do you have any decals on your car? It could be the clear corners and 22B setting off everyone's rice-radar but it seems mild to me. I mean aren't there any Civics or *real* rice around?

OMG. It is a Civic ricers dream here. Thats why I dont understand why they pick on me. I mean...I dont mind that they dont like my car. But do they really have to yell and curse at me? That doesnt bother me either really. I am affraid they are gonna do something to my car. No decals here Colin. It is debadged 100%. Man...I need to ask if the real ricers get this kinda turn out.

Thumbs up

hmm... I get compliments on my car all the time. Have yet to get any negative remarks. And my car is stock looking too! hahahaha...
Just today I was on my way to work, at the light a truck pulled next to me and 2 guys which look like some hick was staring at my car front and back the whole time. I look at them and one of the guy yell out to me "Nice Car!" I just gave him a thumbs up and thanks while he continued admiring the car. So far so good.

Most people in traffic here just give me dirty looks. I don't know if it's jealousy or what... I try to just look straight ahead at stoplights.

HHhhmmmm...
It might be a redneck problem...
Here in Houston it's not bad at all...people dig my car...and you should see the look of awe they give us when we're all cruising...

HOWEVER once in a while I *enjoy* making my way out to other more redneck areas just to see the pro-domestic rednecks get all hot and bothered by my car. The usual happens...they make some cheesy remark to their friends...so I'll walk or drive over and ask them if they have a problem with my car. (around here you'll find that these guys are all full of hot air...all talk)

Either two things will happen:

1. They'll think it's a normal import that I pimped/r!ced out in which case I'll explain about the car and how it's stock (for the most part) and it's racing history...and end up gaining respect.

2. They're real jerks so I simply challenge the f-bodies and mustang drivers to an autocross and challenge the "rough and tough" truck drivers to a rallycross. I've even offered to pay their entry fees...none have taken me on. I make my way outta there while they're looking confused...before they realize I made them look like idiots in front of they're girlfriends and decide to tag-team my butt...

Like I said...they're full of hot air and completely put too much faith in American V-8s and NOT in learning to drive or expand their horizons)

Anyway...once in awhile when I'm in need of some viceral entertainment I'll make my way to Tomball, Conroe, Huntsville, etc...(for Houston people)
I must also say that I've been seeing more and more imports in these smaller towns...nice thing to see.
Tre'

Tim - I think I can guess what's going on. First, you exhaust is a bit large as the other day, my foot could fit in it, remember? Also, though, I think it's the combination of the tailpipe and the CALIFORNIA plates in the Land of Oz.

Waddya think?

Perhaps Colin could comment...

My exhaust isnt big. Just the tip is. The actual opening is only 2.5" hehe. And you heard it. It sounds good. Not ricey. And ya your foot fits in the tip. Hell its a 4" tip if I remember right. And you got lil Cinderella feet I forgot all about my CA tags. That could be it also...

Maybe it is because you de-badged it?! Why would ya do that to your Suby. To a meat head frat boy (I know, not all frats are meat heads) it probably looks like a Honda. Let people know it isn't one, put those letters back on!

Turbo your RS. Than offer to race one of them. After they see your tailights I'm sure they will leave you alone.

I think I aggree with RallyImprezive. Maybe if you would have left the nice Subaru Impreza RS badging on there they would give a little more respect. All those hillbillys out there that live in the trailer park have satelite TV dishes bolted to the side of there rusty trailers. I'm sure they have seen the new WRX commercials.

Heres an idea install an audio video system in your car and whenever these guys give you heck about the car ask them to "step into your office". Pop in a video of some good WRC footage and see what they think. And they thought mud bogging was the only real off road driving.

We really dont have any hicks here though thats the thing. I live in a town that thrives off the college here. Most of the college people here are just your average Joe/Jane Blow. And they actually do know it is a Subaru. They yelled something about it one other time as well.

I just have to laugh when i read about this stuff from RS owners.

I know you like the "aggressive" looks and all, but what did you expect with clear corners and a huge-ass wing?

I've driven behind Spectre23's 98RS with 17 Prodrive wheels, white decals and a V5 wing and everyone in the cars around him just stares and points at it.

Then there's me in a white Legacy Wagon, lowered just a bit with GT wheels and dark tint. Nobody thinks twice about me, which is exactly how i like it.

Ah...the warm blanket of anonymity

ya i would have to agree with the above. these cars look like what everyone else has to bolt on. i know its a rally car and so do alot of folks, just not enough. most folks here in memphis just look at the car and i can see them trying to figure out what is that.

i was thinkin of adding the mudflaps and see if it helps to not look like a tuner.

Maybe you should move to St. Louis, MO. Seems like most people here don't give a rat's butt. Nobody even notices my car. Granted, it's completely stock, but it is an RS, scoop and all. You probably won't get any compliments, but you likely won't get any trouble either.

Jealous Ones Envy!
Typical Ryce response. Not to be mean, but that's the exact same response that most "all show no go" drivers give when they are criticised. I'd say they're just jerks with nothing better to do than to single out some people for ridicule. What their reasons are could vary. And some just have an opinion and like to share it, sometimes obnoxiously.

Steve, I do think it's the Apex N1 (that is a silly muffler tip-- sorry), clear corners and the 22B wing.

Even still, you have to be quite a jerk to go beyond chuckling to yourself all the way to screaming at someone.
