Talking Tomei 4-1 Header + PICS + VIDEO

So i decided to get the Tomei header from EDO and here's my impression:
see this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1255946

Fedex delivered this header on Wednesday last week, and as expected it has a very good built quality. I decided to buy this header after I went to see the header in person during the EDO Performance Grand Opening event in Huntington Beach last week on Saturday. The welds are very clean, and all the openings are ported. I am especially impressed with the fabrication quality. It comes with upipe, wrap, bolts, all the gaskets, and the fasteners for the wrap, as well as an instructions and some stickers. For the price it gives you a very complete package, and as it is offered at a sub $1000 price.

What i like about this header is the design. Although it is not equal length, it doesn't have any abrupt bends. The design of the 4-1 section is very well thought out to minimize turbulence, and the inside is very very smooth.

I ordered this header from EDO last Monday and i talked to Kevin. Two days later, the header arrived. I would definitely buy again from EDO, for their fast response and good price.

I'm getting this header installed on the 25th this month at Suby Specialties, along with the Tarmac 2 coilovers that i ordered a while back from Racecomp (hopefully i'll get the coilover by then). I'll then post pictures of the parts during the install then, so stay tuned.

Ian

Update 05/28/2007:

So i got the header installed 3 days ago and had the chance to drive the car with the new header to the grand canyon last saturday.

I could definitely feel a much improved response throughout all rpm range. I cannot prove this but my butt dyno did feel the difference. The car now pull harder than before. I'll need more time driving the car to find out about the spool difference.

Here are the pictures:

videos coming up tonight! Still uploading...

Overall, I'm happy with my decision to choose this header for the car's header upgrade. Tomei makes great product!

Tomei header FTW indeed! I think I just might have to buy one for myself. Think I could get an audio clip from you? I want to hear the rumble!

Does anybody know if Tomei make a twinscroll header for the VF36/VF37 turbo?

Yea, I saw it in one of their add booklets. Although it was all in Japaneses it was easy to tell it was designed for the JDM WRXs that come with twinscroll.

no, stock uppipe will not bolt up with this header, it has 3 bolt flange connection between the header and the uppipe. Stock only uses 2 bolts.

If you want header that bolt on to stock upipe, look at the perrin equal length.

Did you have to cut the front cross support just in front of the header? It looks like you did from the one pic you have here. If so, can you get a pic from directly below to see how much clearance is needed?
Thanks,

Jim

alright this is going to sound really bad, but my awesome friends and girlfriend bought me tomei headers and up pipe for my birthday last year. by mistake my mechanic friend ordered the equal length twin scroll model. figuring it was a blessing in disguise, i kept it and have been working on piecing a twin scroll kit for installation lol. I am in hong kong now and just bought sard injectors and fuel rails. hopefully these are the last pieces and i can finally install all this stuff.....to imagine, all this for jdm headers lol

I'm not sure if my installer had to cut the front cross support to fit the header in. I can take picture on my next oil change to show you the gap. He did mentioned that he had to trim some stuff but he didn't exactly tell me what it was.

Default Doesn't fit!

I just had this installed on my 06 STI and it is rubbing in front and on the right side. I drove the car maybe ten minutes and I had horrible grinding which has now turned into banging since the heat wrap has been shredded. I don't know what I'm to wind up doing now. So disappointed.

every tomei/gt spec etc. header has that problem. next time research the part before ya buy it. you have to grind or bend the subframe outta the way.

I just had a tomei equal length header installed on my 06 sti. Had a dyno tune done, and with the adddition of a hard inlet and a walbro fuel pump made considerable gains. Dyno'd previously on a mustang dyno at 265/275 (hp/tq). With the 3 additional mods (in addition to TBE, cobb shorty intake) car made 275/315 on a safe tune, not too aggressive. made more power all across the powerband. torque peak is really low, 3.1 3.2 K, spools up soooo much faster. Plus, I do love the boxer sound but the EL has it's own nasty snarl to it, and it is quieter on the highway. Overall two thumbs up.

I am quite happy with it, Matt and Dylan at DS1 did a great job!! There's so much torque down low my shift pattern is 1-3-6 for normal driving now...haha
