I will be running an atp 35r stock location on meth 25-26 pounds daily. the heads are completely stock, while the block has custom cp pistons, crower rods, new crank, studs, gaskets, bearings, etc.
what would be a good size and company to upgrade my cams to? also what kind of benefits would i really see? is it worth it for me? thanks for any help anyone can provide.

talked to my builder/tuner and he said 272/272 crower is the way to go. he also mentioned "buckets" which are 25 dollars a peice and hes unsure how many i need as many as 16 but most likely only 8 what are these?

The tops of the valves that are micorns different in width/hieght. They are used to set valve lash. You can proably move a few of the ones you have now to get to the right spec and buy as little as 2/3 or as many as 10 but you're liekly to have some already that can be moved around and reused...

after further talk with my buddy, i think im going to do 280/280 crowers with springs and retainers. he said that they do not make them for my engine though, he said he talked with crower and they will make a custom set at the same price (for an ej255) of 725. i think im going to do this. keep the input coming. he said with the springs retainers and cams and buckets, it will be abut 1900 installed, my engine is already pulled. does this seem like a good fair price?

What's the lift on those?
You maybe killing your spool with that size of an exhaust cam profile. |

my buddy said the 272's should be about 20 wheel or so and the 280's should be about 40 wheel. does that sound about right? |

To the right of the graph maybe at the cost of spool on the left. What's the lift? 10.5, 10.7, 11........... 272 for example denotes the duration which is only part of the equation. What's the max lift?
I'm however useless with cams, I run a 272/264 mixed set. I get great spool, my 35R is at full boost by 4000 but the top end drops off starting at 6300. |

i want to say the lift is 10.5, i dont remember what he said it was just over 10, and he said the 272 were 9.xx.
how much do you really think that would affect it? im running a green now and would not mind losing a little spool for 30-40 wheel but im going to upgrade to the atp 35r and kinda do not like how it spools already. i NEED full boost by 4500, i mean ill see what happens maybe ill go with something a little smaller then the atp. |

true well i want to hear that thing if its ready before my car, and from your other post- you dont like the rough idle? i love how that sounds and can not wait!
also do you have avcs still? or could you not get those cams to do it? my builder said that the ej255 cams are very similar to the ej257 but hes not sure i will retain the avcs if i use ej257 cams. so my question is still do ej257 "drop in" to an ej255. |
