Default GOO by my ECU

Today when Graham and I were pulling out or carpeting we noticed that both of our cars have a puddle of GOO!!! by the ECU about there the passenger would put their feet. At first I noticed it in Grahams car and I just thought nothing of it and Blamed his girlfriend for it.. but then I noticed it in my car and thought.. His girlfriend hasn't been in my car.

It looks like Sounddampining that got heated up and started to melt and its very very sticky and blackish brown.

What is this myster puddle? cause its not me and its not his girlfriend.. and he said it wasn't his... so what is it and where did it come from???

Brad

It probably just is sound shielding, but what the heck is causing it to melt...

I think I'm gonna stick with the trunk monkey theory for right now......

I pulled the carpet back on my 2002 after only having it for a few weeks and it was sticky there too. I think it is too keep the carpet in place, but who knows... I guess a trunk monkey would have had to go by then.

My downpipe passes relatively close, but not enough to start melting the inside of my car! We touched the area right underneath the melting spot right after the car was turned off and it was hardly hot. Also, this happened on STiTuner's car also, and his car is N/A.

I believe that is where your AC water drains out... check above the ECU a little and there will be a tube that connects to the AC water reservoir if you have a lot of condensation that's where the source should be...

Default ECU Location

Please help a newbie who has searched. I'm looking for the ECU in my 01 Legacy. I've started to pull up the carpet under the passenger's feet but didn't see anywhere that looked like a good place to keep a computer. There was a silvery metal plate up towards the front of the car. Is that a likely spot? Otherwise there's a plastic piece closer to the seat. Maybe under there? No gooey stuff to report. I'd hate to pull up the whole interior to find out the ECU is next to the spare tire or something. Thanks.

Your ECU is behind that silver plate. Grab some sockets (12mm if I remember correctly) and pull it off. Don't mess around with it unless its for a good purpose.

I think it was a 11 or a 10. I 11 I was using to unbolt the plate was kinda slipping.

Default Thanks guys!

You guys are amazingly prompt and detailed! I'll get right on it with that 10 mm. Graham - Is working towards a Link II with an eye to a turbo charger a good purpose? Depends who you ask I guess. The car is currently perfectly fine at the moment with only 9,000 miles on it. I wanted to get a look at the ECU to see if Gerry's wonder plugs would work or if I "should" get a spare ECU to hack up. I don't think I will cut the harness.

you would need not only a spare ecu but the spare pigtails offa wire harness to make them tie in together right.

I would love to go that route but I already hacked the harness and 100-300 bucks is outta my range.
