As long as I have a E85 about 1 hour from where I live, I will still go and get it. If it cost as much as 93oct, I will still buy E85.

he is correct. you would need 1200cc and probably a good idea to re-wire your fuel pump....and get a bigger fuel pump.

and i'd also ditch the sidefeed injectors and switch to top feed.

and switch to stock heat range copper plugs gapped to 0.024-0.026

1000cc+ sidefeeds just suck. you will almost surely throw misfire codes trying to run a 1200cc sidefeed on pump gas.
there are aeromotive340's, DW400, walbro400. dual wally's is a bit of overkill.

First of all - thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. It has been very help in learning about E85.

I'm about to take the plunge and wanted to get some input.

My setup:

2011 STi
Stock turbo
Turbo back Invidia - catless
AEM cai
GS EBCS
GS AOS

I'm going to switch to an 05 STi FPR and dampeners to get rid of the stuttering issue.

I plan to stay on the stock turbo for 1 - 2 years and then I will probably upgrade to a turbo capable of the 450 hp range so I want to have enough injector and pump for that from the start.

I'm leaning towards the newer DW65c fuel pump because I want to be able to drop it in without modifying anything.

For injectors, I've been looking at DW 1300's and the Five-O Denso 1200's

I'm still learning about tuning but I've had a lot of success using OS tuning to fine tune my stage 2 map. I'd like to be able to dial in E85 well enough to drive a few hours to get a pro-tune so I want injectors that are going to be the easiest for me tune. I also want injectors I can tune easily to run on gas for the winter or for road trips to places that don't have E85.

What would you guys recommend for injectors? Are there any others I should consider? Is my fuel pump choice good enough for now? Is it enough for a bigger turbo? Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks.

Thought it might be fun to bring this idea back now that I'm on the 20G XTR...

Basically just get from 50-100mph as fast as possible: use whatever gears you'd like, brake boost, start slower and go WOT through 50mph, etc. Just keep it to a flat surface and you're good.

I'll start with my numbers, and some that I pulled with my brother's 2011 MS3 that is Stage 2. If I can get a few more people from this thread to post up their results, then I'll create a separate thread in PPB to try to get a full NASIOC list going. I tried to make a format for the entries. Let me know if I missed anything relevant. It would also be good to post a log or a plot.

Here's mine:

Are you managing 50-100 in only third, or shifting to 4th?

I am actually going through 2nd, 3rd, and into 4th to get from 50-100mph with the 5 speed. With my gearing and powerband, I think that's the best way. Now that I look at it a bit more, I could probably get to 100mph in 3rd if I raised the rev limiter a hair more. That might drop the time a bit, but I don't plan on revving it any higher until I get a built motor in. I think I'd still have to start in 2nd, no matter what, or I would be waiting for the turbo to spool for quite a long time.

Faster cars tend to use 60-130mph as a benchmark, but that takes a VERY long time in a stock or near stock Subaru. I picked 50-100mph because I thought it was pretty fair to all transmissions. Most will have to use 3 gears to get through it. If you have a wide enough powerband and/or the right gearing, you can make it in 2 gears. Someone with a newer STI 6 speed could actually make it in 1 gear if they manage to have a power band starting under 4k and revving to over 8k (but that doesn't seem likely).

anyone with a ppg gearset and a 7500rpm limit or higher should be able to hit 100mph in 3rd without any issues, and i know that i can get my fpred to spool up 20+psi at 50mph in 3rd gear with a little bit of brake boosting, which means that anyone willing to brake boost and that has ppg's should also be able to hit it in 1 gear. it would take some testing to find out if it is faster to start in 3rd and brake boost or start in 2nd and deal with a shift. i will test in out in a week or two. my car won't be back on the road until the end of the week or so...and then i have clutch break-in and everything so...

btw...testing out a kenne bell boost-a-pump on top of my dw300 pump once i get it up and running...will post my opinion on it once i get my maf scale re-worked and everything. my IDC's were over 100% on the last logs that i did with my 1250cc injectors and dw300 by themselves so...curious to see what things look like once i get the maf rescaled and everything...we'll see...

Well, the recent one was just calculated off the video, but the one with the plotted data was pulled with a $10 Vag Com cable (LINK). But a Tactrix or COBB AP would be able to do it too. Anything that can log time and vehicle speed should do the trick. I think video is fine too, as long as you have software that can see time down to the 1/100th of a second.

EDIT: No 1/4 mile times with the new turbo. Sorry.

^ what he said...alot of the time when this happens, taking a blow torch to the probe part of the sensor to burn all the carbon deposits off will fix it

Called aeromotive today to discuss my new fuel system. I am gonna run new rails with 8an in and out. I am pulling the stock feed and return and running 8an to and from the tank. Bret @ aeromotive suggested that I run my 1300dws at 60 psi and 30 pounds of boost Max with the aero1000 pump and a pump controller...
Apparently no one will weld a sump on a used tank so either I buy a new tank or remove it and put a fuel cell in. I don't want a smaller tank but most tanks are made of aluminum. From my Google search it seems that some say the water that e85 absorbs is the problem...not the alcohol itself. I'm confused about that. Why would water be bad for aluminum? Any insight on e85 fuel cells? Seems converting my OEM tank can be done. Cut the 1/4 nipples on the hanger assemble and install an bulkhead fittings...any links to guys that have done this?

the water is what causes the ethanol to be corrosive to aluminum. the ethanol by itself isn't very harsh or corrosive to the aluminum, but once it starts to absorb water...different story...water will corrode aluminum fairly quickly if given the chance. this is why you have the sta-bil ethanol stabilizers and this is why i drain my tank completely before every deployment.

Making the switch to e85...questions

Would i be best to go with 850cc or 1000cc? I'd rather have too much than not enough. I'm only shooting for around 350whp on a mildly built short block (drop in stuff) and vf34 but I'm sure for later ill go with a bigger turbo. I suppose the difference in driveability is the big question here injector wise. Five 0 or id?

fuel pump- I've been seeing in here that some of the walboro pumps have been failing. What would be my best option for a fuel pump that will last?

750's are fine for a vf turbo. and lots of people have run walrbo's without issue.
