Default Perrin intake + COBB AP

Hey all

I recently got into a COBB acessport and love it. But I also have a Perrin intake. I have read that I will need a Perrin map for this but it will cost me even more money. Is there anyway around this that would not throw off my car or add any error codes?

I would prefer not to sell it if I don't have to as I just got it.
Any help or info would be great

I don't see how a Perrin intake would act any differently then any other intake all it is , is a tube and a air filter , what does a intake do ... It draws air in that's it's only function so how could they change it to do anything different flash your car and run it if a CEL pops up plug your ap in and see what it says

Sounds like a marketing scam to me so you will spend more money on over priced Perrin junk

I'm using a cobb map with the perrin intake, in kelowna as well lol. I've been running the two together for probably over 10k now with no problems and no messed up afrs. From what I've read though some people have had problems with the intake so if you have a wideband or something I'd keep an eye on it.

Mind you, this is my 02 vs your 09, and I'm talking about the short ram- so I could be way off base here.

I talked to Anthony and Wade and they both agreed that it should be fine and just to watch my data. Im still learning how to data log but its worth to try it out i think. And hey, if it ****s up I can just take it off and sell it haha. I just dont wanna pay 50.00 for a new perrin map.

I just like to get a few opinions on it and see what everyone has to say

Perrin was apparently supposed to email a map when you purchase it, but they never replied to me so I said screw it. If wade and anthony say its fine..I'm sure it is haha

I just emailed perrin and they sent me the maps for free. Try contacting cobb or perrin. Shouldn't cost you anything since you just bought the accessport

Edit: I did but my accessport through perrins website though, so that might be why they sent me the maps for free

They told me it would be 50.00 bucks . That is probably why you got them for free

So I installed the intake and added on the newest COBB map with their intake.

It sounds great but 2nd gear is a little choppy. Not shifting as nice as it did before I installed it.. Not sure if it was just me or the new map not working well with the Perrin intake..

the biggest thing to consider is MAF scaling. If the perrin intake is a different diameter than the cobb/stock one then it will be a problem.

But why not just ask 09wrbrex politely for the map...? Is there something I'm missing about the maps only being usable on one car or...?

Maybe this might clear some things up! These diagrams are examples of the airflow for the stock airbox and then the PERRIN intake. Not exactly precise, but might be useful. Here's the stock:

Then the PERRIN 08+ Intake Example:

The MAF sensor reads air flow through a specific size tube. If that tube size changes, the air flow changes which effects fueling and timing (because engine load changes). Even bends in tubes affect this, so any change to the intake on the 08+ cars will definitely affect it.

No scam here! If you've purchased your AccessPort or PERRIN intake directly from us, we can get you the map for free! Feel free to call us at 503 693 1702 or e-mail maps@perrinperformance.com.

I know this is a late response but I have a perrin intake as well and a accessport perrin gave me their map (93 octane stage 1 for their intake) and I get a super nasty buck at medium/high rpm and high boost. Nornal driving is fine but only when I hammer on it. It feels like a bad surge.. lose power and sounds like I hit a rumble strip? I want to try the Cobb intake map stage 1 but I just don't wanna mess anything up.. did you come to conclusion yet woth cobb map with perrin intake? Reading all the posts it all makes sense its just a tube with a filter but I just don't wanna mess it up. (2010 wrx hatch) V3 AP

Andrew and I have been in contact and are working to figure out what's going on. Thanks for your patience Andrew.

Just want to make sure everyone knows, you do not want to run a PERRIN intake with a COBB map. The COBB maps are either made for the stock, COBB, or AEM intake only. Running a COBB map with a PERRIN intake will cause issues with AFR. We don't advertise the PERRIN maps anymore on our website, but we still have them. If you have any more questions, you can reply here, or send me a PM, thanks!

Great info again! I have read that the PERRIN maps are a little toned down form the COBB maps these days. Is that true? I want as much power as I can from the PERRIN intake and the map

if your goal is as much power as possible, then get a protune. All OTS tunes will be toned down due to variations from car to car. A proper dyno protune will get the most bang... but for more buck...

The PERRIN maps are generally a little more powerful than the COBB maps actually. Thanks!
