Default Carbon Racing Project

Hey VIC! I've started something called Carbon Racing Project. The idea is to build and campaign a Bio-diesel rally car to raise awareness about alternative fuel sources.
The funds will come from sponsors and donations and at the end of the 2014 BC TSD Rally Championship, the car will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be donated to Vancouver Bio-diesel Co-op.
This is not about hating on petroleum cars or asking you to start hugging trees. It's meant to be fun and empowering and a good time for everyone involved. It's about trying something new, having some laughs and mostly about community.

The car
We're all Subaru lovers, so the idea is to source a diesel-powered EE20 engine and transplant it into an impreza chassis. As many of you know, It's been done before and this guy even raced his at Pikes Peak.
http://www.revvolution.com/rivet/199...eer-team-28719

The Team
We're going to need your support to pull this all together. So we're looking for everything from drivers and co-drivers to anyone who can turn a wrench or type on a keyboard. As a community project, it will take all of us to step and move the project forward. Carbon Racing Project will be a success that you can all take credit for, So let's have some fun and get dirty!

One more thing: let's keep this thread free from arguements about the environment or Bio-diesel and keep it constructive. Post here if you like the idea or if you want to be a part of it in any way. Even if that just means doing a coffee run or rolling by with some timbits

Here's the website I created to let people know what we are up to:

great idea,
believe it or not a few years ago we entertained the idea of creating a company to produce bio diesel
but after doing some calculations scrapped it. i had a mercedes diesel then =o)
and i'm still thinking of converting subie into electric car =o)
anyway
do u have ee engine already or you're planning of getting one?
i have a partner in Japan who i can ask to source **** for it
ee20 has pretty impressive specs for a diesel and torque is tremendous of course

Thanks for the support guys, I'll throw out some ideas of where you can each jump into the project. Alex: I like all your ideas, and we are looking for an engine... we're mostly in the fund raising stage so far.

One thing I'm into is starting a YouTube video to get the word out. Maybe we do a Subaru flash mob or something !?!

Oh ya, please like the facebook page and leave a comment if you want:

Electric is so 1990's.

Just kidding... although I would think that an electric Subaru rally car might be quite heavy, due to its thirst for reliable power. (EDIT: ie. lots of batteries required)

And besides, I kind of like the idea of the exhaust smelling like french fries... mmmm, french fries...

Maybe we go electric or hybrid next year... I am prepared that the engine may cost more than your average EJ engine. It's worth it.
I did speak with Gregoire Blachon, he raced the diesel at Pikes Peak. His company Boxeer supplies EE20 powertrains along with ECU and power steering setup.
http://boxeer.com/ee20_subaru_conversion

He offered us some financial consideration if we go with him, either way he's a good guy to partner with. I'll send you a PM with the details.

Pretty sweet idea...

As far as electric goes, it would have to be a hybrid. It would be impossible to get the range required out of a full electric to do a tsd with the current technology available...

I'm happy to help wrench and do a bit of design and fab work if needed. But no moneys to spare... Haha

I vote for diesel.

What engine management would we be able to use on this EE20?

Apparently it's a bolt in affair according to Greg at Boxeer.

On another note:
Here's an easy job for anyone and everyone who is willing... I put up a thread on Revscene too and I don't go on there much. It's in the Vancouver off topic area. Can you guys who are members there post up that this is legit? Maybe a personal reference or something? Much appreciated!

Just a note that when you're asking for this kind of money it looks much more professional to make sure your capitalization is consistent. For example, the 's' in the platinum sponsorship isn't capitalized but it is in the other tiers. The first letter is capitalized for "Make a difference" but not the other two below it.

Also after taking another quick look, under your "WE ARE WELCOMING SPONSORS" heading you need to change the 'your' to "you're".

e: As in "you're showing" and not "your showing"

Agreed. Please proof-read 3x before posting. The level of professionalism takes all of 5 minutes with Microsoft Word (or google even).

Thanks Ryan! Ultimately this is all of our project so I'm open to anyone jumping in. Alex has already started working on sourcing engine stuff for the car and Mike is putting together a sponsor package. I've had other offers from Revscene for detailing and body stuff when the time comes. Fastrack has also said they may help with the livery. I keep meaning to roll by Dales and see Jason... I'll do that this week.

The website is still a work in progress and I welcome the feedback there. Really the next level is to grab some attention to the project... does somebody want to step up to do a YouTube video? We could all meet up and film a roll in or two and maybe some night meet stuff? Any ideas? I have a go pro I could lend / use.
